With all the talk of Alvarez Vs. Cintron & Margarito Vs. Cotto ect...
Havent seen much threads about Arce's "5th" championship, OK 4 because of that interim belt.

But either way... Jorge deserves some love.

    Congrat's to "El Travieso"
    Grueling ass fight tho.

I mean, it's cool that he won and all and can kind of sort of call himself a five division champion (although Boxed Ears and some others aren't willing to roll over on the whole "WBC interim flyweight" issue) - but to be honest from the last few rounds that I caught Angkotta was shredding him.

A lot of people (who apparently weren't tuned in to HBO for some reason? :huh) have said that Arce totally punched himself out after three rounds and from there was just completely spent.

In the 10th/11th/12th, I saw him literally falling down every time he threw or blocked a punch or took a step towards Angkotta.

As much as Arce deserves props for settling the score from their earlier encounter with its unsatisfactory technical decision ending...Angkotta deserves just as many for hanging in there through what sounds like a furious early assault from Arce...and for then picking him apart late.

It isn't like Jorge really distanced himself as being head and shoulders above Angkotta. He hung on and scraped through, and was fortunate to have enough early rounds banked. (does anyone know the scorecards?) He was kind of embarrassing himself toward the end.

I can't argue with anything you have said, Arce defo looked VERY gassed in there @ times especially in the later rds. (Totally spent (both) were clinching & looking utterly exhausted)
Problem for Angkotta was that this fight was happening in Sinaloa Mexico & well let's be honest he wasn't going to get a close decision against the hometown guy.

That said, Although I was happy Arce captured this belt the first words out of my mouth to my dad who was watching the fights with was. "Arce should retire as champion, It's time"

    :nod

Boxed Ears sent me a PM that would have made a very good forum post (but I won't copy/paste it without his permission, just to mind my manners) where he spelled out how this is the perfect note for Arce to bow out on, and there won't ever be a better moment for him to do so.

Arce should retire, he's been in dozens of wars, it's about time. 5 Division Champion from 108 to 122, and the Greatest Mexican fighter of all time.

    :think Interesting...
(I had to bump to see IF anyone else seen this.)

Not that I disagree BTW. (Just never really thought about it in perspective)

It was a grueling fight indeed for Travieso, and give mad props to both fighters. But im very happy for Jorge on his accomplishment, and i wouldnt argue with anyone who says its time for him to retire...It is a very good time for him to do that.

I love Arce... Completely won me over with his fight against Hussein I. Very accomplished, and is a true warrior with a bigger heart than most. He is what you call an over achiever. Not particularly great at a single thing, but enough heart and guts to compensate for his weakness, or lack of skills.

For the **** who called him the greatest Mexican... **** off! Titles in different divisions is so ****ing overrated...and Your comment proves it. Sal Sanchez is greater even if Arce became a 6 division champ tomorrow.

I agree that Arce should retire, but I'd be hard pressed to put him in the top 10 Mexican fighters of all time, much less to say he's the best. At a bare minimum, Chavez, Morales, Barrera, JM Marquez, Olivares, Lopez, Sanchez and Arizmendi are all ahead of him, and guys like Vazquez, Salvidar, Zarate, Chiquita, Canto, Zaragoza, R. Marquez, etc. are probably ahead of him as well. I mean, his best wins are probably Hussein, W. Vazquez and Choi. Hardly a spectacular resume.

Now if we're talking one of the most EXCITING mexican fighters of all time, then he can be put in the top 10 for sure. :good

Nowhere near skilled or well rounded enough to be called GOAT Mexican.

Even as "Goat Mexican action hero" he has stiff competition from the likes of Morales (who is also high on the other list...)

Morales and Izzy Vazquez are neck to neck for the "GOAT Mexican action hero" claim. :good

    Morales/Vazquez
    Olivares
    Arce
    Pintor

That sounds about right to me. :good
