What are opinions on Ricky Burns now

Call me hard to please but I always felt him fighting Katsidis was a calculated thing, and not necessarily the step up most anticipated. I mean its better to fight a guy who's perceived to be on a higher level than you, who's style cooperates with yours, more so than a guy who's style doesn't cooperate with yours, and a guy who is physically more gifted.

Its one thing being more athletic than your opponent, its another when you have the style to give him problems.

Burns needs to prove he can step in there with a talented Boxer!, not a fighter, cause its only then when we'll be able to see how effective his Boxing is when he has to be more assertive, when he has to adapt to being the thrower, instead of the catcher why by you can utilize his reach and movement to offset the kind of straight ahead fighters he's been beating.

 

I never thought he'd reach this level when he lost handily to Arthur but he's improved immeasurably.

Looks like he has more to come as well.

I wonder whether he has full belief in himself, still can appear a little star struck but maybe he's just very down to earth... Which he does seem to be.

Definitely a world class fighter now. Needs to fight some real top class fighters now, he's earned it, let's see what happens. I believe Martinez and kats, while great wins, were just shy of real top end quality.

 

time to take ricky for what he is and back him! a good guy, hardworker and dedicated. Deserves success for his hard work .

The lack of faith people have in Burns on here is rediculous, its almost like people want him to fail, there seems to be a very defeatist attitude when it comes to Burns, who has obviously been legit for quite a while in terms of skill(hence why I picked him in the first place).

then of course we have the "oh but katsidis has lost 3 of his last 4, past his best, should have fought broner blah blah" hindsight bull****

Wins over Martinez and Katsidis have legitmised him as a top 10 force at 130 and 135. I hope he gets crowned full champ at 135 because interim champ is no champ at all. Win or lose in his next fight, Burns is legit. Frank needs to start putting him in top fight after top fight, let him earn some big money and let the chips fall where they fall.

 

The improvement of ricky is nothing short of amazing plus he seems a nice guy.

No matter how you dress it up Wallet, its a shocking statistic that Burns was so readily written off here, by many posters who should really know better than to let their hearts rule their heads.

 

How were they letting their heart rule their heads when the majority of people on here were supporting Burns?
