    I can respect talk of Donaire and Ward, but JMM just beat (yes, beat) the pfp #2 fighter in the world,,,and at a weight at which he has no business fighting. That's fighter of the year material there.

    Jmm wont get it. I would say Kirkland . But to be honest Donaire is glaring as well.

    Donaire in my eyes is the fighter of the year with JMM as the runner up. Beating Montiel and Narvaez is pretty impressive especially the way he beat Montiel

    he probably won't get it coz he didn't get the nod of the judges in his last fight (though i had him winning that fight), but he really deserves to be fighter of 2011 :good

    Fighter of the year is a stupid award full stop. When most of the top guys only fight twice a year, there is hardly ever a stand out winner.

    Great pick for it. Would like to see it.

    Donaire would be second best.

    It will be Ward though, unfortuanately. It should not be though, unless he had beat Bute.

    If people are nominating Kirkland, then I get to nominate Noburu Ishida. :deal :D

    In all seriousness, The following is a list of fighters who had good campaigns in 2011

    * Nanito Donaire
    * Saul Alvarez
    * Ramon Gonzalez
    * Lucien Bute
    * Kazuto Ioka
    * Sergio Martinez
    * Yuriorkis Gamboa
    * Orlando Salido (provided he defends successfully in December)
    * Adrien Broner
    * Brando Rios (contingent upon him defending on Dec 3rd)
    * Amir Khan (contingent upon him defending against Peterson)
    * Andre Ward (contingent on him winning against Froch)
    * Carl Froch (contingent on him winning against Ward)

    Of these, the Super 6 winner, Brandon Rios, Amir Khan and Nanito Donaire would be the likely favorites.

    Kirkland we'll get the come back of the year and he deserves it. That said he was KOed by a journeyman. After that he beat Angulo. Ok Angulo is one of my favorite fighters but was coming out of long way-off and is as unproven as Kirkland. In his biggest fight before Kirkland he was out-boxed by Cintron. Donaire killed a top 10 p4p fighter in Montiel and got one more solid win.

    Ward vs froch winner should get some notice too...after all 168 is one of the deepestbdivisions right now and the winner of that fight will not only win the tourney but will also be on top of the smw division...

    No question Ward after he wins will be the top at 168 in the rankings, but to be the best at that weight. You have to beat Bute. Hopefully Bute/Ward happens in like March/April.

    Giovani Segura has a great shot if he defeats Brian Villoria impressively. He blitzed through Calderon earlier this year to keep his WBO light flyweight title and if he KO's Villoria, he will have won the WBO flyweight title and have 3 KO's for 2011.

    Brandon Rios also has a great shot if he defeats John Murray impressively. He KO'd Miguel Acosta earlier this year to win the WBA lightweight title and later defended it by knocking out Urbano Antillon in three rounds. Just as Segura, if he knocks out Murray, he will have 3 KO's for 2011.

    Nonito Donaire deserves mention as knocked out Montiel impressively and dominated Narvaez later in the year. However, contrary to the two fighters above, he will only have fought two fights in 2011.

    I can't think of any other fighters that deserve it. A lot of posters have mentioned Juan Manuel Marquez but he only fought one quality name this year and although he came close to beating the welterweight and pound for pound king, he did not get the nod for the win. James Kirkland, another name brought up, was very busy this year and while experiencing lows and highs, he did fight only one quality name in Angulo.
