2 of d most successful amateur "heavies" who didn't get 2 represent d US . Similarly sized , both having impressive amateur resumes . Under professional rules , who wins , how n y ?
Unfortunatly there is no film on Wells to make an assesment . I watched the Milligan fight vs Tyson and he did display some chin .
Bobick and Holmes is on you tube. Really not much to it , Bobick knocks Larry down but it seemed as more of a balance knockdown rather that one that was the result of Holmes being hurt from. Holmes was trying to set some some things up with the jab but the ref was not having any part of Holmes that day and eventually dqd Holmes for clinching. I would have liked the fight to go on a bit more to see if Larry could have got something going.
Anyway Milligan KOd Al Evans (who stopped Tyson) and had a few more notable victories including Orlin Norris by dec , Michael Bentt , Olian Alexander and Henry Tillman by dec .
Wells was a great amateur p4p , but how would he have reached Stevenson ? Also , i don't think he would've been even money with Savon or Tua either .
How many times in history did a 5'10" man manage 2 hit a 6'5" man ? Even Tyrell Biggs was not a quick win 4 Tyson . He took him 7 rounds .
The majority of Wells' KO's came against opponents taller than him. He was an even 6' by the way. I saw a fight of Wells' in which the the big black man towered over Wells close to a foot ,and Wells rocked him in the first round almost breaking the other guys leg or knee considering how tall he was and the way he went down backwards getting his leg stuck underneath his large body. That was one of Wells 72 first rd Ko's. I'll find the name but I know it was in 72 at the Nationals in which Wells won the 72 national title.
It is funny how Mike wants to eat people's offspring before a fight but once he kills them all he wants to do is offer sympathy, thanks and hand jobs.
Last time i checked he was listed @ 5'10" but I guess he was a real 5'10" which means 6' in 2day's boxrec standards . Checked again and I remembered correctly . Y didn't he sign with Lou Duva really and Y was he so unsuccessful as a pro ?
