one of my mates was asking the other week about whether he should wear a sauna suit when working out. he's pretty big, over 6 foot tall and he wants to lose weight. i told him that a sauna suit only causes water weight loss but he was saying that sweating more burns more calories and he says that it would be good making your body work harder. does anyone else think that wearing sauna suits is a good thing? has anyone got any bad experiences or do you enjoy wearing one? i know whenever you see some fighters working out, like brandon rios or cotto, they always seem to be wearing one
Training wise wearing a sauna suit is entirely pointless and will only be detrimental to your training. As an athlete you should learn how to train smart, not harder.
Yes, it helps you lose weight. However, it is only water weight which you will put right back on. Sweating more does not burn more calories. I see guys like this all the time at an MMA gym my friend runs, and they are always the most clueless individuals. No offense to your friend. The only benefit to a sauna suit would be wearing it to try to make weight relatively close to the weigh in time. Otherwise, it is useless for weight loss. While I'm at it, the oxygen mask contraption is useless for conditioning.
thats what my mate was saying, that even though the sweat you lose is just water weight, you still burn more calories? some boxers seem to always wear a sauna suit when training, regardless of whether they're cutting or not
They are good for cutting to make weight. But to wear one everytime you train? That is crazy and will dehydrate the guy...bad move.
In my opinion you should train well hydrated, well nourished and at a normal tempreture. There is no benifit to wearing more layers or sauna suit. all it will do is decrease your ability to train effectively and so the session will not be as beneficial as if you hadnt worn one. the only use is i guess if your desperate and have to cut weight (waterweight) before a fight drastically in which case you are either in the wrong weight category or you havnt done your job properly for weeks and are desperate
It helps you burn a few extra calories but it does a number on your body. No suit, plenty of water and a good diet are the keys to his success. Also a decent exercise program.
