Hagler,Duran and others I wish I had appreciated earlier.

alot of fight fans confuse liking a fighter to giving him his props. i dont care for floyd but it would be foolish not to recognise his great skills.

 

Bones Adams may have been a bit rushed in the pro game.

 

The Canizales fight came way too eary, but it was the making of him imo. He put up a good effort, he just couldn't keep Canizales off.

After this fight he went from employing a awkward style with a lot of foot movement and low hands to becoming more polished and slick. Injuries also played a part in him having to work on his technique, but he was better for changing and becoming more technical, as he didn't have the reflexes to fight with that hands down style.

He was overlooked because nobody wanted to see a slick little white guy, in a age of little knockout artists and brawlers.

He was left disillusioned with the game after the Ayala fight.

 

I'm actually old enough to remember him being featured on a TV show called "That's Incredible" when he was seven years old. I didn't really notice him again until I saw him beat Rory Boy.

 

I suppose it boils down to where you hang out in this site. In Classic, they extoll the virtues of both these guys on an almost daily basis. Especially Duran.

Undervalued they are not, at least there.

 

He had that effect on too many people...:-(

 

Duran is a boxing God to me. No one will ever come close.

 

If Cholo could speak English he'd be as big as Ali. He was so charismatic and a great character.

 

Hagler has always been my favorite fighter, period.

Incredible aggression, but with pinpoint accuracy. He might have the highest "percent landed" ranking of any fighter in history.

-And he was as smart in the ring as RJJ. I won't take anything away from SRL, but while leonard was fun to watch, he was not as strong or fierce as Hagler, and he wasted more punches. You typically expected SRL to win by decision, while you ALWAYS expected Hagler to get a KO.

- And FWIW, I think Hagler beat Leonard. Change that: I KNOW he did.
Those judges were either mesmerized by SRL's charm, or they were paid off.

I do think that's one of the rare fights when you can make a case for both guys.

 

Leonard won 7-5.

I also take issue with Ray not being 'fierce' or 'wasting punches'. That is just so off-base.

Leonard had an incredible mean streak. Plus he was one of the best finishers and most accurate in boxing history. You should've just said you have an issue with his style or personality (although i don't know how you could). Instead of coming out with that. :good

 

Yeah,no one expected him to go into the first Leonard fight as the crowd favourite,but he wowed them in the build up big time.

 

Yeah, and Pac beat JMM for a third time.
