Will Floyd's Inactivity Finally Catch Up With Him?

Pacquiao's fought 36 full rounds in the same amount of time as Floyd's fought 3 full rounds. That's all good coming up against a poorly conditioned Marquez or young Ortiz, but maybe not Pacquiao.

I think a February tune up against someone like Guerrero would be perfect.

Floyd's inactivity does him good. He remains in the gym regularly, and he paces himself sensibly. His body's not what it was five or six years ago. It takes longer to recover. He does a good job of giving it the rest it needs.

Yeah in terms of conditioning and health it does him good. But there's no better preparation than actually fighting for having a persistent little Filipino in your face for 12 rounds.

I think a tune up is just what he needs. I don't think the Ortiz fight gave Mayweather what he wanted most - rounds.

Don't know if it will affect him, but I've always found his inactivity strange though.

Why doesn't a guy, who loves money more as anything else in the world fight more often, wich is where he gets his (shitloads of) money from. :think
I understand that there's devaluation due to demand, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't make a lot more money by just fighting more!!!

Yeah, I agree. I think Floyd, deep down, was disappointed to see the Ortiz fight end so abruptly. But even then, I don’t think there’s much in Pac’s game that will require him to be any more prepared than he already is. If he wasn’t, then he wouldn’t be so insistent on this May 5th date. As long as his conditioning is fine – which I’m sure it will be – then he’ll handle Pac the way he’s supposed to.

It doesn't do him any good and it won't do anything for keep him his sharpness. Hard sparring can be a substitute, but the sparring partner isn't trying as hard as someone trying to take Floyd's zero so it doesn't get you as sharp unless it genuinely is hard sparring

The less times he's in the ring, the less chances for him to get hit with "that blow". So I think with the way he fights, it may gradually begin to show, but I feel he's just so comfortable, smart, relaxed and skilled that he will be fine as he slows down.

*That Blow = the one that can change a career

He cares about his undefeated record more than he does about money. If fighting just once a year ensures his body remains in its prime condition and reduces the chance of his opponents taking advantage of him, then that’s what he’ll do.

Perhaps, but keep in mind that he does train during his inactive periods, he isn't just sitting around, so hard to tell.

Nope he took long vacations twice and didn't miss a beat, his inactivity is keeping him fresh.

People need to be more concerned with Pacquiao being too overactive, and is letting Arum burn him out, and has greatly diminished from his prime form.

I doubt it cuz no matter what in all his comeback fights he still looks Sharp crisp and his chin can't be that bad if shane nearly took his head off and he survived through it

I am a big advocate for fighters keeping busy. But in Floyd's case he may be pacing himself well.. He has sustained very little punishment in the ring over the years, fights quality men when he actually DOES fight, and keeps himself in phenomenal shape..

    Oh god. You're 13 aren't you :huh

And no, as mentioned by previous posters; Floyd stays in the gym while he's away, this helps keep his timing and reflexes in tact. Apparently he's very tough on his sparring partners, this would be because of the inactivity, similar to the way that SRL fought several actual gym fights before taking on Marvin Hagler.
