cool. Personally I think Lee has a better chance (style making fights). I think Macklin's style is all wrong against Martinez and he get's ko'd but I hope I'm wrong.
Whats up with Kenny Egan? Thought he was moving up to Heavy (after losing to Joe Ward) but he won recently at light heavy?
He's decided to go back down and try to win back his title at 81kg! Main reason is because there is only 1 olympic spot left at heavy whereas there are 3 left at light heavy. But of course he would have to win the seniors first! Most people seem to think he has no chance against Joe Ward as ward is still improving himself da whole time, but the way I see it Egan could surprise us all at the seniors! What's to say he won't catch Ward on a bad night? 3x3 minute rounds, you never know wat cud happen! Also I wonder is there any chance of Ward moving up to 91kg? He's still growing the whole time after all.....
I knew about the 3 spots but isnt only one nationality per weight class? It'd be great if both went!! Problem with Heavy is the height difference between both of them and other boxers - Wlad Klit was fighting there as Amateur only moved up in weight after Vitali failed test
Ya but Joe Ward hasn't actually qualified yet so Egan seems to fancy taking the route of trying to beat Ward in the irish seniors and then qualifying at 81kg rather than having no real hope of getting the one spot at 91. As regards the height difference when moving up to 91kg, id agree completely. it's a massive jump altogether, but as i say joe ward is still growing so it could be an option for him...
Wasnt a hundred percent on that at all. Thanks man TBH it wouldnt be the end of the world if Ward didnt qualify, hes young could easily go to the next Olympics. But i think if he goes to London he'll turn Pro afterwards

Not sure mate but i heard he was fond of a drink. Real shame. I heard a story about him from more than 1 reliable source, that when Dave McAuley was defending his title against, i think, louis curtis, that curtis had no sparring partners and they got in touch with the club to see if they could get someone. Well, after 2 days, they paid Todd up and didnt want him back. Apparently he dropped him several times, and that was an amateur against a world title challenger!!!
Im slightly ashamed to say I never heard of the bloke. But that's a great story! An amateur bashing up a world title challenger in sparring! Fair play to him. So many stories of irish boxers who really didnt get the recognition they deserved
Oscar De La Hoya used to fight under the Mexican flag and Im sure Macklin is proud of his Irish heritage, just like Arreola,De La Hoya, Victor Ortiz etc are proud of their Mexican heritage. Even though those guys are American fighters. But the fact is, hes born and reared in Birtmingham and speaks with a Birmingham accent,and fought for Britain i the Amateurs under a British flag. Im all for saying hes Irish-British or that hes British of Irish decent, but if yoyu're going to say hes Irish, you have to accept Sky calling Katie Taylor British. Hes Irish like Tyson Fury. I mean I have no problem with him being proud of being of Irish heritage. Im just saying that when he becomes champ,he'll be called a British champ,and we have no right to say otherwise.
