I don't even know why this is even an issue to begin with. If Floyd wants to invite GBP to the party, he has every right to do so. What matters the most is the fans ultimately get what they want. Since Pac has agreed to the blood tests, Floyd, so far, hasn't brought up any new roadblocks. You have to give him credit for that. In contrast, Arum continues to slow down the process. Yesterday it was about Pac's eye. Weeks ago it was about WADA/USADA. Today it's about GBP. How much more can we take? Arum is stalling. He's hoping his antics will frustrate Floyd so much that he'll walk away from the negotiation table. Arum knows FMJ isn't going to put up with a lot of BS. If or when that happens Team Arum is gonna say, "Well, the reason why the fight didn't get made is because although we tried to negotiate with Floyd, he backed out." Pac fans will believe Floyd continues to duck MP. And Arum moves forward feeling good about making a fight with Marquez. That's the plan, isn't it?
:goodThis is the most important part. There will be no fight on May 5th in the MGM grand that doesnt involve GBP because they have that date booked.
It doesn't look/sound like a serious business negotiations. Unless they only delivered a short message to Floyd; "We will finance the fight and willing to give you $100 million guaranteed purse. We will work out the details if you're agreeable to this initial offer. Call us later. Thanks and goodbye".
Are you serious? What will GBP show at MGM if don't have the PAC-Floyd fight? Canelo vs. Kirkland? So promoting a fight now completely depends on who got the date booked first?
If they get investors involved the investors can do damn near anything they wanted to do with the fight. Not good. There will be no investors involved. Only sponsors.
They can show whatever the hell they wanted. Its a reserved date. They booked with HBO and the MGM for may 5th. They wont make the kind of profit they will with a floyd fight but they still can put on a show. And yes promoting a fight AT THE MGM ON MAY 5TH WILL INVOLVE GBP BECAUSE THEY BOOKED THE DATE. You cant just show up an say you're throwing an event without it being booked.
If that's the case, what will happen if TR will show PAC-JMM 4 at Cowboys Stadium, Texas on the same date? Will GBP just give up that date?
You dont understand. GBP booked MAY 5th at the MGM. No fight will take place inside the MGM without GBP involve because they booked that date. Whatever the hell takes place in another state/arena doesnt matter. But the MGM on MAY 5th 2012 is reserved for a GBP event.
And you don't understand boxing business. Yes GBP can put a show on May 5 at MGM and clashing head-on with a much bigger fight from competing promoter on that same date? Give me a fight that can compete with PAC-JMM 4. Except maybe Floyd-Sergio if they can miraculously make that fight. Look what happen to Mares-Agbeko 2 being buried in the limelight of Cotto-Margo 2. Having a great date on a great venue doesn't guarantee good sales if you're showing the lesser fight. Better give up the date to your competitor.
I am not arguing whether a promoter can put on a show on May 5th at a different location than the one GBP is doing. What i am saying is on MAY 5th 2012 GBP will have an event at the MGM. Period. No shows at the MGM will take place MAy 5th without GBP. What are you talking about?
There's as much chance of a PAC-JMM 4 fight happening outside of Mexico as there is a Floyd-Sergio fight. Besides Arum might be a ****ing sleazy piece of ****, but he wouldn't make a fight on the same day simply because it screws both of them over. Why do you think he was so pissed about the Mares vs Agbeko fight being on the same day Cotto vs Margarito? Everyone know the majority of the fans are going to be tuning into Cotto vs Margarito, but there will still be a significant amount tuning into the other fight. If only one fight was happening then all the attention is on the sole fight.
Its not like having a Real Estate License and buying a house from another realtor. Its like having a license and asking for assistance when purchasing a 40 million dollar apartment complex. This is the biggest fight in history. As any business owner knows...you work in your capacity and you contract work that is outside of your capaicity. Its common sense and should clearly be seen as such... Do you think every fight is the same regardless of magnitude?
Let's say Arum/Investors got the PAC-Floyd fight, I'm sure MGM will quickly dump GBP in order to have TR's PAC-Floyd fight. Pay GBP some step aside money? I think even PAC-JMM 4 can lure MGM to dump any GBP fight not involving Floyd.
