DANNY Green was left to ponder retirement after suffering an 11th round knockout to Poland's Krzysztof Wlodarczyk as the WBC cruiserweight champion retained his title at Perth's Challenge Stadium. This content is protected This content is protected Wlodarczyk, entering Wednesday's bout with an impressive 45 wins - 32 of them by knockout - and only two losses, represented one of Green's toughest opponents. Even though the 38-year-old West Australian was leading all the cards when the fight was stopped, he has now lost inside the distance in his last two fights. The defeat follows his IBO title-losing knockout loss to Antonio Tarver four months ago in Sydney, leaving the three-time world champion to admit the time may be right to retire. "This is it for me guys," a bloodied Green said. "He is the best cruiserweight in the world so it's no shame to lose to him. "I've had an amazing career, I don't know what I'm going to do yet. After feeling each other out in the opening rounds, Green had a massive fifth round where he landed some strong left hooks to Wlodarczyk's head and body, and some straight rights to have the champ rocking. But that only served to spark the Pole into action with the 30-year-old stepping it up another gear in just his sixth fight outside Poland, and first title defence out of his native country. Wlodarczyk began warming to the task with some blows that rocked Green in the seventh round. The Pole then landed a big right hook midway through round nine, and appeared to be getting right on top. Green was again on the back foot after some more lofty blows, in that same round, with the ropes saving him on one occasion. Wlodarczyk took it up another gear in the 10th round with Green just hanging in there despite also picking up a bloody, and potentially broken nose. Wlodarczyk landed the biggest hit of the night in the 11th round, and added to that less than a minute later to retain his title with a TKO. "It was a great fight. I want to thank the fans and especially those Polish ones," Wlodarczyk said after the win. "I had some problems in the earlier rounds (round five) so I knew I had step it up and I did." Earlier, undefeated Australian Will Tomlinson won the vacant IBF super featherweight championship with a unanimous points decision over Mexico's Alan Herrera. The judges scored the fight 118-111, 117-111 and 116-111. - AAP This content is protected

just my take on last nights fight 1st - jesus green looked like **** at the end of each round sitting in his corner draped in towels and a ice sponge on his head - looked like he did at the end of the sean sullivan meltdown fight. looked like he did'nt want to be there even though he was winning vitually every round . 2 nd **** wlod is limited in ability and punch outrate , has'nt got a too bad defence - gloves up high and keeps moving up on his opponent but other than the occasional jab and a wild overhand right his offensive punch output is minimal - no combinations and no infighting skills at all ,3rd yeah wlod comes over as a mentally strong bloke in the ring as he just shrugged off everything green threw at him and just keep walking up all night keeping the pressure on with a physical pressense [ still cant work out why he want to end his life a while ago when your the world champ ]. 4th , even though hes limited in ability wlod was way too good for green when it counted in the championship rounds 10-12 where green just melted away and completely unravelled in front of our eyes.
Green performed to the best of his ability. He is just not big enough for the top 10 CW's The power he has at SMW and even LHW is negated at CW He made some nice pay days nevertheless and didn't disgrace himself at that level, but he is LHW in all reality.
I still wouldnt mind seeing him facing a top 10 LHW fighter to see where he's at. This fight only proved he cant do cruiser, not necessarily that hes done and finished.
He should retire. But If he wants one more fight to go out a winner, he should fight shane cameron. If he got himself up for it, green would destroy cameron...at any weight. Not holding a belt might make it a hard sell. The ibo light heavy title is vacant...maybe he could fight someone for that. I doubt coming off two ko losses would prevent green from being eligible to contest it
Green is just not a 90kg cruiserweight. He fought a typical Euro fighter last night but boxed him. Because he had too, Green does not have power at that weight. Green never boxed guys at 168 or 175. I can understand that he dont want to cut down to light heavy, its a big difference between LHW and Cruiser. Perhaps 83-85 dannyweight is ideal.
You could see that after about the 8th or 9th round, Danny just couldnt keep up the movement and concentration that he had used to win most of the rounds, which was really disappointing. To me it really did seem like a complete loss of concentration that caused him to let some of those big shots through. Also when he had the guy wobbled in the 5th round he really needed to just go mental on him like he did to Roy Jones, he might have thought he was just going to toast him easily after that for the rest of the fight im not sure. Retirement for him would make sense, but i think theres still a few fights left in him, even if hes just doing it for some money and entertainment. Because the last 2 fights have been entertaining thats for sure!
i think he's just too old his body cant sustain the early effort for the whole fight. hence why he kept spitting his guard.
his body cant maintain the 12 rounds with that extra weight imo , he looked very sharp and good in the first 7 or 8 rounds, then he gassed, he simply has too much weight that he isnt used to and his body cant adjust to the change , plus the bigger cruiserweights outmatch him physically in every category, this has caused him to change his aggressive bullying boxer/fighter style into more of a boxing style, which is far from ideal at this stage of his career.
He kept the pole off with his great jabs for most of the fight as soon as they stopped was inevitable esp as he tired it was like Roy jones gets when his eyes start to close when he is stuffed
