totaly agree he is a big size but was carrying more than any of our other boxers at the europeans(not fat per say just not as lean),excess weight around his midrift and arms so he should be 81 for a year or two yet till he develops his adult strength..Then he will be a frightening prospect.

Im not fully sure of this but I heard somewhere that Neil Gough won his first All Ireland title as a senior. Went on to win 8 I think. He's worth a mention!

Neil was class got to the olympic box off fight and all 5 judges gave him the fight yet he somehow lost :?,His career deserved an Olymic games and yes he is worth an honourable mention as is Kieran Joyce from Cork.

Well Andy,at least lived in Limerick a good deal of his life, represented Ireland at the Olympics etc.

I dont really want to keep going as I have no issue with Macklin or him calling himself Irish. Some of Irelands gretest soccer players were English lads with Irish parents.

I was just making the point that if Macklin wins a world title, Britain will claim him as their own and it'll be hard to say otherwise.

I am just trying to get a handle from you on what you deem Irish enough because I am struggling to follow the logic! ;)

Andy lived more of his life in England than in Ireland, Macklin would spend months on end living in Tipperary every year. Cumulatively there is probably little in it.

"Britain will claim him as their own" - thats of little concern to me to be honest.

I consider both of them Irish, they consider themselves Irish, that pretty much closes the case for me.

Agree with all criticisms made. Also Fred Tiedt at number 9, Fred was the victim of the worst of robberies for Olympic Gold, it's up there with Roy Jones. It had also been decided to award him best boxer of the tournament, but he was robbed of that too as it had to go to a gold medal winner. Like Carruth, he should be much higher up that list for his achievements at the highest level.

Since it doesn't look like Lee will get a shot at JCCJR I was thinking Rubio would be a damn good alternative!!!
