Avalos is lunging and missing with his set-up jabs and Romero is countering him nicely with solid flush hooks while moving. Avalos leaps in and lands a right hand superman punch as Romero has his back to the ropes. Avalos waves his jab and Romero backs up, measuring him. They cling together and bang away by the ropes. Romero tries to pull Avalos close in a tight hug as Avalos does better during scrappy spells of infighting. Long jab by Romero from outside. Avalos is staying off, watching. Avalos slowly circles left and paws his jab, then resumes his high guard. Very slow feet by Avalos and only average hand speed, but he's always able to remain close to Romero and is landing some jabs (but struggling to find his power punches). Romero dances around, drifts to the ropes, and clinches when Avalos gets close.

Round 4

Hooks and rights from Romero while dancing around on the tips of his toes, ice skating far from Avalos. BIG double right uppercut trap sprung as Avalos marches in on Romero in a corner. Romero is hooking away but just clipping arm as Romero backs up and blocks. Avalos throws a high straight jab and then drops a right hand to the hip. Thudding baseball bat cracks to the body by Avalos. BIG LEFT HOOK COUNTER TO THE FACE by Romero. How did Avalos not react to that??? Another big counter left hook by Romero. Good body shots by Avalos coming forward. Romero blocks a jab, then lands a huge uppercut. Avalos hooks away and gets blocked.

Round 5

Avalos pressures Romero to the ropes and then drums away. Romero shimmies and avoids some body shots. Avalos is missing jabs but forcing Romero constantly to the ropes, having to lurch in with wild overhead shots or clinch to avoid being squared up in Avalos' sights. Some shots traded back and forth as Romero backs up across the ring. Rights over the top by Avalos. Switches southpaw, big left hand. Romero is slapping out while backing up, just knocking Avalos' hands away. High jab by Avalos misses. Body shots by Avalos.

Round 6

Long jab by Romero. Avalos digs with some uppercuts up close. Romero keeps distance. Avalos bobs side to side. Romero is swiping with jabs while backing up and circling left. Avalos paws with his jab while scooting in. Romero holds him off with a jab. Half-pulled 1-2 by Romero to keep Avalos honest. Hook by Romero. Avalos leaps in and Romero evades him to make Avalos run into the ropes and bump his chest off them. Romero complains about a low blow after Avalos hooked him on the outer thigh. Romero is taking long spidery steps to his left, flapping in with jabs and rights from outside as Avalos tries to cut him off. Hook by Avalos. Uppercut by Romero while moving. Avalos seals the round with a body attack in the final ten seconds.
