Kelly would have got slaughtered, and was probably just seeking publicity. Even at that age, Mace was a match for some world class fighters.

This does sound like a cross trainer type thread though. How does Jem do damage against the iron suit. Punches to the Arms? Will Kelly be able to even land on Jem and if so hurt him? In reality, even with the suit you would expect Kelly to collapse from Exhaustion after a round or tow, so Jem must still be the favourite.

People don't realise how dangerous Jem Mace was.

Despite his quiet intelectualism, he was the ultimate technical boxer of the day, and the ultimate streetfighter of the day, rolled into one.

I think you are right. He fought on a little too long but he really was the Sullivan, Tyson, or Ali of his time, wasnt he. One of the few who were not only were the best of their time, but in their time (and not later) were considered the greatest or one of the greatest of all time. If his LPR fights were Queensbury rules, it would be very interesting to see where he would rank all time, particularly pound for pound.

Think Kelly wore twenty bullet holes at Glenrowen and dropped after a long time with blood loss. Ned didnt say any thing or complain when he was caught. Tell Jem to do that.

    :deal This.

Kelly was a beast, he was the North East Victorian heavyweight champion which just about makes him the world champ going by the opinion of the time. Kelly way too strong for that ***** Jem Mace.

------------------ Kelly had some experience as a pugilist, but Mace would have whipped Ned even at age 65. Of course Mace would have been dead shortly after though,,,,, Ned liked guns.... A LOT !!!!!

Bumping... solely for the fans, but i just noticed this post Janitor.

Ned Kelly had the entire police force, the army and whoever else chasing him and what does he do? he Challenges Jem Mace... For the extra Publicity!!

Now that is a brave mood.

I reckon Kelly v Mace would do an awful lot of PPVs in todays environment.
