Does anyone think Margarito training at high altitude then coming in for medicals in NYC then flying back could adversely affect him in the fight?

I ask because some quack on the general seems convinced Marg will gas pretty early in this fight ... :think ... http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=363499

I think Cotto will get revenge. He must be so fired up after last time and nobody beats Cotto at MSG! If the fight is half as good as last time Il be happy.

I'm really torn. I like Cotto but I like that Margo said he is willing to die and I believe him. I don't know if Margo used his handwraps, its possible but then I despise him for trying to use them against Mosley and I doubt that he suddenly decided an old Mosley is when he needed to cheat.

I'm torn. I should probably go for Cotto because he seems like a good guy, who fights the best and most importantly didn't cheat. However Margos willingness to die in there is what beat Cotto the first time and Cotto has always been suspect to someone who can turn it on late. Even against Mosley it was tight, even against N'Dou it was tight, simply because they weren't the sort of fighters to disappear late in a fight.

Was gonna do a 'Blueprint to Victory' thread but gonna post my thoughts here..

    For the Challenger Margarito..

-A lot of mental aspects to this fight, one is how both men start the fight. I believe Margarito needs to jump straight into action before it's to late. He starts slow and could well lead to own downfall. Miguel has a lot of things on the mind espicially early. Margarito needs to set a fast pace and start early as if to say 'round 12 now Miguel'. Also he can't think about the eye he must get straight to work.

-His best work was when he had Cotto on ropes, he has to take him back there which i don't think Cotto will be stupid enough to do this time. How he gets him onto ropes? he'll have to work behind a tight guard and steady jab and really press behind it to try force Miguel out of his comfort thinking zone.

-Work the body early, hooks and uppercuts try slow Miguel down.

For Margarito there is no real change, he'll try to do what he normally does. I think a fast start is a must for him.

    For the Champion Miguel Cotto..

-Keep the fight centre ring, look to gain control of middle of ring and pivot thus turning Margarito onto punches. Use his poor footwork to your advantage. Margarito is more effectve when he's trapped his man on ropes then he unloads relentlessly. Roach has said 'Cotto stays off ropes, he wins'.

-Use the lead hand, Cotto's lead hand is his stronger arm, He must use this as his main weapon with left hook to head and body. The left hook to head will be thrown because of the eye. Cotto's made it known he's going for that. From what i've seen of Cotto on the pads he's actually throwing a long lead left hook with the knuckle up so it's more textbook. I think he needs to throw it long at times and short.

-Lead Off, When Maragito wants to throw, throw with him down the centre. Dip and change level of head with little feints, and movement of head plus small steps either side. Margarito struggles to gauge the range especially early on.

For me Cotto wins, I think he will have to survive some rocky patches in different parts of the fight but he can really punish Margarito and i think can force a stoppage late on. I believe early on your gonna see something special.

    Good stuff Mand :good

For me it's 50/50 whether Cotto can keep Margarito off him all fight, or whether Margarito comes on late to force a stoppage. I've bet quite a bit on Margarito to win by stoppage (because I think 5/1 is ridiculous) but my pick would be for Cotto to win a close decision (or stop him at any time if the eye gets bad).

As you noted the key punches in the fight are Cotto's left hand, be it a hook or a jab and Margarito's uppercuts in close. Whoever is able to land more effectively should win.

    :good Cheers Roe

As you say it's a tough fight to call, Things still worry me with Miguel in this fight but i think him wanting justice will spur him on. Plus at least he had a settled corner where as last time before and after that fight it was falling apart with Evangelista. Better tactics and more in ring IQ/Management of fight and he can do it.

I'm already nervous , boy i'd love to be there tomorrow night when the music hits for the entrances!.

I was absolutely shocked at how little Cotto went to the body the first time round. Miguel Angel Cotto should be synonamous with body shots. If you are fighting a fast boxer or relentless pressure fighter (or anyone) then you need to invest to the body to take that special something out of them and slow them down so physically you are on equal footing. Cotto needs to **** his body so that in the second half of the fight when he is tired, Margo isn't still pushing and pushing.

Margarito will walk Cotto down again IMO. Cotto will have success early but Margarito will get to him late on. Margarito TKO9.

It's a hard fight to pick. The first three or four rounds will tell us everything. I suspect Margo isn't as immune to punishment as he once was. His eye is ruined and he's never had a good defence.

But Cotto is older too. He looks to have improved since his Manny Meltdown - his technique looks tighter and he's working off his jab a lot more. He's slowed down, but most of his skills still look to be in place.

If Cotto can get some damaging shots in and keep Margarito turning enough to negate the bigger man's work, he can set himself up well for when Margo comes on strong.

My feeling is that Cotto will box in a less flashy manner than the first fight, look to land the left hook and use his 1-2 more consistently. He'll tire around the eighth but stand with Margo and step around rather than go to the ropes.

The remainder will be nail-biting as Margo piles on the pressure, but Cotto will have taken a strong enough lead to survive it out.

Looks like Cotto's away from Top Rank after tonight, Arum knows and has known for a while. Miguel i believe doesn't like the fact Arum's stood by the cheating piece of ****ing **** Margarito is.

Miguel's stance was strong about letting The Cheat earn money but i think like a good man that he is he's thought ok let him earn i'm gonna be **** out of him and end his career.

3 years, 3 ****ing years i've waited since that night. I stood in shock as Cotto took his towel and walked into the bowels of the MGM Grand Arena looking a swollen mess. I felt numb knowing he just lost. Tonight i wanted closure, tonight i want revenge, tonight wage war Miguel!. Smash this piece of **** into retirement. As Brother Naazim said 'he's embarrassing the sport' (Margo).
