It's the same argument I see for the entire war on drugs.

"We can't legalize them, everyone will do them then and the whole world will be drug addicts laying in the streets!"

Making PEDs illegal just creates an incentive for the drugs to go underground and be more dangerous.

People want an advantage, and the safer alternative, a legalized regulated version is always rejected because people want to be do-gooders.

Yeah, I had never thought that drugs were illegal because they are dangerous before.

I am stunned by these brilliant arguments for people who punch each other in the head for a living to be protected from themselves.

It's too much for me to comprehend.

I do* think there should be a distinction between recreation and sport. That might be where we disagree.

Fighters should be protected as much as possible. They have a right to box but they deserve to be protected. Allowing PEDs would result in serious injuries and death, and in that case, the commissions would be failing the fighters.

Let them fight but offer them protection too.

    no way

would be unfair on the guys who can't afford the designer gear. would lead to health problems as everyone is on them and if your not you would be at a massive disadvantage.

What if a fighter couldn't have access to PEDs while their opponent did? It's a nonsensical idea. Fighters who use PEDs are a disgrace.

What about fighters who can afford oxygen chambers? Or houses in the mountains to live and train in?

Surely training at altitude is an advantage some poor shmuck doesn't have.

Some fighters even have to still work while training.

So if going up to 12 ounce gloves would protect them even more, should we do that too?

    What about 16 ounces?

The fact is though, we don't know what size of gloves helps. People will automatically say that 'the bigger the gloves, the safer the fighter', but the fact is, there are less deaths with smaller gloves because there are more knockouts. This is something the commissions are dealing with. They need to find the safest gloves sizes possible.

Aside from that though, there is also the entertainment value. We can't give fighters huge headgear and very soft, foam gloves because the sport is most entertaining whenever fighters get hurt. Nobody remembers fights with two African bantamweights with granite jaws, they remember knockouts. We want to reduce deaths but keep the fights as entertaining as possible, so it's a balance.

As boxers, they should want the same. So should the commissions. The fights have to be entertaining, otherwise nobody will pay the boxers purses because there'll be no support for the sport.

If the same number of fans turned up, fine, have huge foam gloves and make it as safe as possible. However, that isn't what fans want and therefore, it's not what the boxers or anyone else wants.

I think theyre used way more than most fans want to admit. I dont think its a coincidence that in the last ten years the number of top fighters who stay on top past 35 has increased dramatically.

If everyone does them then is it cheating? I dont know why there is such a huge outcry when someone does get caught because there are so many more that are doing it that arent being caught. How many guys we know of that were on the steroid record books like Mosley and Holyfeld that never tested positive? Or same for cocaine with Hatton, DLH and Calzaghe all admitting they were cokeheads yet they passed every drug test for their fights because they know when the test is.

On the pro argument side for testing, I think that atleast they will use less PEDS (which are harmful to the body) than they would if there was no testing at all because they have to be careful on how much they take in order to pass the test. If they eliminate all testing and its a free for all then maybe boxers would all start looking like the stupid meatheads in MMA and doing that dumb victory pose they do when they win, you know what Im talking about this one:

I think the boxers do want it, though.

The only people who don't want it are the commissions. That's why they aren't clamoring to invite rigorous blood testing.

Most fighters are willing to do whatever they can to get the edge. New coaches, experimental training, oxygen chambers, **** drinking.

I don't think PEDs make the different people like to think they do. I bet if it were to come out right now that so-and-so was "doping" none of us would have known, and we wouldn't have cared, especially if they had losses and been knocked out a few times.

I think athletes, especially ones who are already authorized to assault each other for our entertainment, should be allowed to decide what methods they use to obtain their performance levels.

As long as it's across the board, and agreed upon by the fighters, it should be okay.

We allow fighters to manipulate weight classes, and it is done for this very same advantage.

that's why I think we should eliminate the entire failed policy of policing them.

Might as well make it an option, so it can be regulated and made as safe as possible.

Who knows what **** boxers are using that isn't even capable of being tested for, how safe it is for them, and how much it helps/hurts them.

We'll never know if the enhancements are run in a black market.
