Not impressed with Cotto.

Cotto TKO Cheating *******. Even without any cheating or controversy, Cotto handled himself beautifully and dismantled Marg. Marg's got an epiccc chin, and great heart, but Cotto embarassed him tonight.

Small improvements by Cotto he did try to tie up Margo but wasnt as successful as Mosley. Im definitely not a Margo fan but Cotto looked almost the same. That he wasnt feeling punches was bull**** I actually lost alittle respect for him, but maybe hes emotions got best of him he still angry at Margo.

 

Plenty of posters are sensationalizing the performance. There's a few reasons why. 1. They wrongfully picked Margo to win based on styles and therefore have to credit Cotto for winning because they thought he had his number when that's not the case. 2. They thought Margo would win, and he basically lost every round so they have to eat some crow. 3. Better to focus on the positive of Cotto's performance, rather than what Margo wasn't since both fighters are still past it (Regardless of who's more past it, especially since they bought into the wrong for him logic).

As a Cotto fan I'll say he did well, but it wasn't the best I've seen him. At stages it seemed eerie to the first fight, Cotto did well with combos and the right hand. I thought he gave up space for too easily at times, which caused him to get cornered a little too easily. He shifted well, though. Margo was a little more past it, at least his style is not conducive to slowing down as well since he needs to apply quick pressure which he couldn't which allowed Cotto to shift more. Cotto had better lateral movement, although he sometimes wrongfully just back straight up unnecessarily. Also blocked more with his gloves rather than slipped which caused him to take partial right hands and uppercuts that I didn't think he needed to take. Liked how he backed Margo up at times and tried to stand in the pocket. Would've liked to see a bit more leverage or some more body-shots at times, though. Didn't like how he sometimes rested on the inside and allowed Margo to just hit and hold with that uppercut, although I guess it was a good reprieve from constantly moving. All in all a good performance considering the circumstance. Wasn't the best performance, and he's not the same at this age, wear & tear, and weight in my view. I'm calling it honestly so if he fights Canelo or Kirkland people won't have to shout how he "Aged overnight or got shot out of no where."

Listen, this isn't a Rocky-movie where you got a couple of script writers constructing the perfect ending complete with soaring guitars and slow motion replays of Margarito falling to the ground. This is real life, with two guys trying to hurt each other and fighting with some heavy emotional baggage. Cotto did what he needed to do to get a win. It was how it probably would have gone in the first fight without the plaster. He stopped a guy standing a full 10 cm taller boxing honorably in a way that utilised his best skills. That's as good as real life gets.

 

Balls, Cotto beat Mosley close but clear, and stole the Clottey fight by actually punching in the last two rounds. Only controversial if you're an idiot.

Cotto won the ninth and landed his best punches, making Margo wince. Based on that and the fact he lost 8 of 9 completed rounds you think Tony was going to stage a comeback?
