    Thoughts?

In order to get Jones to take this fight, you would have to offer him the state of Texas as the first instalment.

    Circumstances, buddy!

If Jones is fighting circa 1903, is uneducated and fighting other black MW'S for chump change, he'll jump at a chance for this meat-grinder.

Who you picking over 4 rounds?

    Jeffries.

A starving, 5'8 1/2" 154 pound Jones (1903 edition) would get demolished by a 220 pounder like Jeffries.

Point of the thread: Roy Jones cannot exist in 1903 unless he is both starving and uneducated. If he isn't, he'd never be willing to fight Jeffries, and if he is, he'd never have a chance against him.

jones - starving, not starving, 1903, 2003, whenever. the stupid comments here sometimes are embarrassing to read, even for anonymous posters.

A 1903 Jones would fight like one of his contemporaries. He would also be starving, poorly trained, and in poor health by modern standards. He wouldn't have amateur experience, unless you count 'battle royales'.

So the question becomes: do you favor any other light middleweights from 1903 against Jeffries?

I actually think that Jones has a better chance than given credit for. He is similar to Fitz in how he does things, and Fitz had jeffries out on his feet before his hands gave away.

Jeffries should always catch up with Jones eventually, but it is not going to be easy, and you would imagine that his hands will hold up longer than Fitzsimmons. Jones actually has a fighting style that fits right in with the early 1900s, and i think that even the smaller gloves will favour him immensely.

I think jones wins a 10 round fight or shorter and may even last 20, but loses a finish fight, though it wouldnt surprise me if he does the impossible outlasts Jeffries.

(bet not many thought it give those predictions:lol:)

I am taking the Jones who actually fought in his prime from the early 90's through the early 2000's as beating the Jeffries who actually fought from the late 1890's thru 1904. And it's a lopsided points victory.

I'm putting Roy in a time machine. Wide points win for Jones. Jeffries will not get much chance to wear Roy down and will get picked apart and easily evaded.

Jones wins under any ruleset, Jeffries would struggle to land anything while getting peppered with powerpunches from the best puncher he ever faced.

The biggest issue with small gloves would be protecting Jones hands, he may have to take more caution

Jeffries was either even or ahead of a very mobile and fleet footed Corbett ( who took punched from the likes of Choynski and Jackson without going down ), and had very good footwork, and fast hands. As soon as he lands a good one to the head or body its O-V-E-R for Jones. Mismatch.

It would be like a bear finally cornering, and destroying a fleet deer.

But Corbett was shot and nowhere near Jones level of skill, speed and overall ability in his prime.

Jones was ko'd until the same age as Jeffries was ko'd. Johnson also laughed at Jeffries punches, Jeffries certainly doesn't seem to be a big puncher
