Although the emphasis is on Cotto I honestly believe that his trainer had something to do with him winning this fight. Emmanuel Steward is in my opinion the most over rated trainer in the world, he makes his fighters to cautious and to work behind a 1 - 2 constantly. in other words he trains fighters to his style rather than ad******g to their style and improving any flaws. I cant remember his name but hes obviously brought some of the Cuban amatuer techniques into Cotto's style and its worked beautifully, Cotto pitched a shut out on my scorecard and this is the best hes looked since his loss to Pacquiao. Im not comfortable about a Chavez fight unless its at 154 but i say bring on Canelo! ( even though Bob Arum just wants another in house fight )
Cotto did go to the body quite regulary early on from how i saw it, he just prefered to focus on the eye of Margo which forced the stoppage
Haha ad******g is censored because of the jus.tin part.... i think ppl have been posting too many illegal jus.tin tv streams
Cotto should have always fought the way he did last night. Why he ever decided to stand and trade in the past I'll never know. It seemed obvious to me from the first Margo loss that he wasn't fully using his skills. If the trainer instilled this in Cotto he deserves credit.
the trainer is a great conditioning coach he teaches too much of the cuban amateur style though, excessive movements.
Very good plan to just keep Marg turning and staying off the ropes. Marg needs you to be right in front of him so that he could land those winging shots that he throws. Cotto let his sharp combinations go and kept moving to his left and let Marg chase after him. He did a really good job of turning Margacheato the whole fight.
Yeah that was the only flaw imo. Too much hopping around for no reason but as long as he doesn't tire from it then it's ok.
I like how he improved Cotto's conditioning and had Cotto moving on his feet all night. In the first fight Cotto stopped moving so much, maybe cos he was being hit more and as a result of being hit more, he slowed down thus got hit even more. Any trainer could have put this gameplan through but I thought Cotto executed it better, he had that whole amateur cuban hit and run style going on. Hopefully it doesn't take away from Cotto's ability to sometimes trade and land body shots though.
Yep, the difference between footwork like Cotto's that get away from the punches and PBF's footwork which doesn't show too much movement but yet always finds himself in the range he wants to be, out or in. Then again Ali had excessive movement that didn't hurt him.
Frankly I was concerned when he dumped Sreward...however now I don't think steward would have had Cotto in this peak conditioning. Pedro had Cotto training with his body not against it. I am impressed with the trainers knowledge, conveyed confidence and the application!!!
i think steward would be better if he is going to fight floyd, canelo etc he should hire pedro as a conditioning coach.
It was noticeable that when Cotto landed a few good punches he backed away from Margarito as if to say 'how did you like that'. Not quite as condescending as Pernell Whitaker running backwards around the ring but it showed a lot of confidence.
