Many of the rounds were close, I would say than anything between 119-109 and 116-112 would be reasonable. I had it 118-111.
Sturm v Murray - Didn't score it and watched it pissed but my gut feeling was Sturm nicked it legit. Murray didn't punch with enough authority which was quite annoying, he could have done more IMO and should have regrets. Still a great effort, another very very mediocre display by the German who seems to content to rely on the fact the decisions tend to go his way and just throw the odd impressive shot. Povetkin v Boswell - Povetkin started off very poor but began to shed some rust. Boswell just fell apart really though it has to be said, not really a good opponent. Good finish when it came, not too much to say on this one except I'm still not convinced Pov is the fighter he was pre-lay off. Helenius v Chisora - Highway robbery, great performance by Chisora. Enough said. Jones v Lujan - Totally unimpressed by Jones. His opponent waded in with his hands down virtually mocking Jones' lack of punching power. Never really put the guy to the sword, Jamie Moore beat the guy better. Wolak v Rodriguez - Thought Delvin performed nicely, too slick for his crude opponent. Murray v Rios - Really didn't think there was a lot in this except for punching power in the first 5 or 6. An argument could be made that the punching power was the only really difference between the two. Clearly Rios is overrated. Cotto v Marg - What I expected really, I couldn't see Margarito coming through Cotto and being effective again after Mosley and Pacquiao beatings. He's not the fighter he was, whereas Cotto looked pretty good putting on a similar performance to the early rounds of the first fight but managing to maintain it.
Sturm v Murray - Had Sturm just nicking it by one round. Good show from Murray and Sturm seemed to take an age to throw punches at times. Sturm is very frustrating to watch for me. Arron v Rose - Good win for Rose. Seemed to me he had the measure of Arron and got the impression they just knew each other inside out. Povetkin v Boswell - Same, only saw the finish. Helenius v Chisora - What a difference! Chisora brought it and won the fight. Hopefully he can push on from this. Helenius like Sturm was very reluctant or took ages to throw on the odd occasion Delboy took a breather, mirrored Murray/Sturm in that respect. Expected guys like them to jump on the Brits the minute they took their foot off the gas but fair play to our lads. Jones v Lujan - This is when I started switching between fights. Seemed like both guys threw a lot of punches and were very busy, albeit with a lack of real quality, or cutting edge punching. Wolak v Rodriguez - Rodriguez had a lot easier time of it in this one, he had Wolak figured out and fought to the right gameplan. Rios v Murray - Gruelling night for Murray who gave it everything. Could've been stopped a few rounds earlier. Murray just didn't have the power to hurt Rios despite hitting him with good clean shots throughout. Was painful to watch at times as Rios started capitalising on Murray's glass skin and lack of head movement. Pretty much agree with the last few there word for word :good
I had it 118-110 Chisora, I think it's a far harder task finding 5 rounds to give to Helenius than it is finding 11 rounds to give to Chisora.
I know its the new cool way to do it but don't "find" rounds to score for the fighters, just score the rounds! Maybe stick an asterix next to the close ones.....
You know what I mean, when trying to figure what conceivably could be the score in either extreme you can look at all the rounds and make a judgement on whether that could be scored to the other guy. There isn't 5 rounds from the fight last night that I could conceivably think went to Helenius, hence I wouldn't be able to 'find' 5 rounds to give to him. Or in your method, there isn't enough rounds on my scorecard that I scored to Chisora that would have an asterix next to it, making 115-113 Chisora an acceptable score
Was Rios actually more skilled than John Murray? I remain very unconvinced, he looked bigger and much more powerful than John Murray, but until Rios's power and John's glass skin took their toll it was tit for tat. Murray hit him plenty, they both stood exchanging. Rios didn't seem to offer anything that amazed me, he's very highly overrated on here.
:yep The amount of posters that credited him with having underrated defence was pretty staggering as well.
I felt Chisora won, won with a fair few rounds to say it was convincing sadly he stepped back off in rounds he maybe should of stamped authority on. You can't do what him and Murray did out there and showboat. Not that it would of mattered them scores were done before fight. He lacks power sadly, he clumps a bit with hooks and the Grant gloves may hinder his shots they are quite wide and not a punchers glove but all in all Dereck can feel proud and know he won. Helenius interview was as pathetic as his barnet. I watched some of Rios-Antillon and yes your right, He's a grinder but nothing more then a physically strong grinder. He digs hard enough to make style work @ 135. 140lbs we'll have to see because his size/strength won't be the major factor at that weight IMO.
Just to add following points: NY for me last night showed why it's still and IMO always will be the true Mecca of the sport. A amazing spectacle and atmosphere. Cotto's HBO and Boxnation interviews were brilliant, tears in his eyes as he looked at the Cheat. Then his mother headed over there to ask if he hurt Cheato and Margarito answered 'he hits like a girl!' . I give the **** his due he's tough as ****.
Wolak's chin is overrated IMO. That might sound a bit mental, but lots of people are proclaiming that his chin is comparable with the greats, and whilst it's hardly bad (it's ****ing excellent, he can really take a shot) it's not that good.
Yeah, taking the best shots from Rodriguez, Yuri Foreman and Ishe Smith doesn't really prove his chin is unbelievable. Pinzon had him down too.
