Ok guys.....God Damn. It's like teaching 3rd grade all over again! Haven't we all learn something from watching Pacquiao fight a bunch of slow, easy to hit, stationary fighters that brings NOTHING to the ring but Courage. Margarito has NO SKILL at all. How can a fighter look like he's improve by fighting someone who does not test any of your ability. Margarito never attempted (or prabably didn't know how) to cut-off the ring, doesn't have a jab, not a counter puncher, he gave NO movement and has NO defense.

Remember when everyone thought Pacquiao had truned into this slick-ass ultra-skilled fighter, then he fought a bloated 38 yr old lightweight and everyone realized he is and has always been the same shitty-ass fighter? C'mon fellas. Let's not go overboard by saying Cotto looked like SRL. The only thing that has improved was his Stamina. In fact, the first 5 rounds of their first fight look very similar to Saturday night. The only difference was Cotto didn't gas-out. So Please....

No. Your whole point falls down because this is not comparing one fighter against different opponents and styles, which is apples and oranges. This is comparing the same fighters against each other in two fights - which is comparing apples with apples.

We saw the problems Marg caused Cotto this time, now we see how these were negated with a few subtle adjustments

If you can't actually see the techincal changes Cotto made from the first fight then it says more about your understanding of boxing than anything else.

That's your opinion and I respect that. But I would love to see how his footwork and defense has change when he fights someone that can test that ability. By having anything close to speed, athleticism, ability to counter punch...etc. Hell you should see me hit a heavybag....I look awesome. but the bag doesn't do anything. :deal

You're right, these changes might not be all that beneficial outside of this fight. But technically he was a better Cotto than the one in the first fight, which prevented him from absorbing so many shots this time.

He did correct a fair few of his bad habits though, so surely that can only help him against better opposition?

Again, I respect your opinion, but I disagree. Improved technical ability was not the reason (IMHO) as to why he did not take as much punishment in the 2nd fight. His stamnia was FAR BETTER in this recent fight. Cotto was stuck in cement after 5 rounds in the first fight. So combined with being completely gassed and having a mouth and nose full of blood, he could barely breathe and barely move. As you know (and I am assuming you have stepped in a ring or participated in some kind of sport) being completely fatigued affects you mentally as well. Becuase he appeared to be in better condition, Cotto was able to stick to a game plan of Boxing the entire fight as opposed to SURVIVING as he attempted to do in the first fight.

I think he did what was required, not so sure as if hes "better" or not though.

Whilst he did show some new tricks (more grappling, pushing Marg away, spinning Marg, not bending/ear muffs etc), Marg didn't seem like the same fighter. He kept pressing as usual but wasn't throwing as much/as hard as he did in the 1st fight (somebody could well correct me here with some contradictory compubox numbers, but that's my impression of the 2nd fight without having compared the numbers).

Also, we have to remember that Marg's eye was closed after 4/5 rounds, damage which was easier inflicted due to the pasting he took from Pac (not saying Pac is to take credit here, just pointing out Marg's eye is now susceptible to damage). This does show that Cotto's plan was to target the eye so does demonstrate Cotto's improvement in terms of boxing to a laid out plan.

I was ecstatic Cotto won but to simplify my post, I'm not sure he would so easily entirely to improvements in his style. I think it's the subtle adjustments he made which helped, but more the decline in Marg which cemented Cotto's victory.

Cotto made the necessary adjustments. He said the difference in this fight was that he had a better prep. And he said that the punches felt the same,

But all of the experts at ESB are convinced, without a shred of evidence, that Margo loaded his gloves in the first fight. ****ing geniuses.:nut

He said nothing of the sort. He asked the press and Kellerman to make their own conclusions.

Miguel was forced to fight at an extremely high pace and his footwork was KEY, he also showed he could block the uppercut. Anybody else at 154 would keep Miguel in his zone where he would just box comfortably and quite possibly stalk the opponent down. Hitting a punching bag is nothing like having a live moving target in front of you even if it only moves forward. I have sparred many a times with guys that are just as limited and when they have size and they can smother you it can become very tiresome. The way he was able to maintain that pace of movement throughout the entire fight was just awesome and truly only of a world class caliber fighter.

That was a straight up hater post, the ***** couldnt elaborate on anything!
