Jim Lampley: Khan Has a Better chance of Beating Mayweather than Pacquiao does!

If I were Khan I'd try and push for Mayweather no sooner than 2013. Maybe winter 2012 at the earliest. If he can remain undefeated during that period, that is. He's talked about fighting Berto and Ortiz when moving up. They're two very dangerous fights.

 

That would be the smart move,but will Floyd hang around that long?
Suppose it depends on how on top of his game he feels in 2013.

 

It's possible.

Height, reach, handspeed, age advantage, a good jab and a good workrate. He could give Mayweather problems. The closest fighter to Khan (in regard to Mayweather's past opponents) would probably be a faded De La Hoya, although Hoya had a serious weapon in the form of that left-hook, and he also had a much better chin and more experience against top level fighters.

Khan might win a round or two. Mayweather would soon start using his 'high guard and walk you down' style, though, and Khan would get broken down bit by bit with that right hand lead and left-hook.

 

I've said it before, but I see Mayweather fighting for a long time. He's an egotistical guy who loves the spotlight; he'll never sign up for a war, and he loves to spend money which leads to his IRS problems.

As uncle roger has said you need a jab to beat my nephew. Khan has a better jab than pac so its possible but not likely.

 

Hell NO. Khan has nothing for Floyd anytime soon. Pac still has that Southpaw thing going for him, mad speed, and mad power, with also a ton of big fight experince. I have been saying this for years and I will say it again. I dont see any righty beating a prime Floyd unless he is just so much bigger & stronger that Floyd cant do alot of things. Other then that, I think Floyd has mastered his Defense against righties and none will hit him clean.

Greats like JMM & Mosley land like 2 good clean punches the whole fight and everyone goes crazy. That was against a rusty, inactive Floyd. If he's active then that wont even land those. I just cant see a righty landing on him clean. I also think that jab stuff is so overblown. Thats not going to work against Floyd. People by that Oscar crap too much. 1st off Floyd was much more worried about Oscar's hook and he wanted to take that away. Oscar also didnt jab that much.

Alot of people say that if Oscar wouldve stayed with the jab then he couldve won but the truth is that it was effective because he didnt use it that much. If he used it alot then Floyd wouldve taken it away. Most of all, that was just Floyd's 1st time on the big big big stage while also fighting against a big guy at at weight he was clearly worried about and didnt know if the punches would effect him or not. If he had that same fight with that same version of Oscar right now, it looks totally different and Oscar's jab doesnt do ****, just like Khan's wont

 

That's how I see it; the dimensions are most comparable among Floyd's recent opponents. Khan is too unrefined, and while DLH was past it, he still had numerous advantages compared to Khan, and still got beat, regardless of how bad Floyd might have looked at times.

Pacquiao's timing, punching form, defense, footwork, power, chin, feints, unpredictability, reflexes, and ring IQ are all far above Amir's.

The only thing he has on Pacquiao is a good well-aligned orthodox jab, slightly quicker hands at this point, and a decent height. Not enough. Pacquiao has a shot, but Khan doesn't yet.

Khan would get his glass jaw shattered but I agree that stylistically he has more of a shot than Pac.

Khan has the speed and long reach but his chin is questionable. I still see pac as a bigger threat to mayweather. Just make the ****ing fight happen already.

 

Floyd fought Judah almost 6 years ago. Since that time, Judah had tough (mental & physical) losses to Cotto & Clottey and a narrow victory but still tough fight to Mattheyse. He might not be completely shot but he is no where near the fighter he was when he fought floyd and even then he wasn't great. Mean while Floyd has only gotten better and more skillful since that fight.

And before the backlash comes, I will point out that I still for some reason like watching Judah fight.

 

If he looks impressive this weekend, I slightly agree. I have been said he has the physical attributes, but he still gets hit way too easily and is off balance when he throws flurries. But he is only 24/25. But as for now, WAR Peterson!
