Watched the documentary last night, can't believe they didn't show benn being heavily knocked down in the eighth, I think....even more of a miracle than the through the ropes first round....also, there in a point when watt is saying there are arm punches, there's nothing in them....benn is fighting on instinct here...then benn lands and watt scream there was somethin in that one.... Gerald backs off, the turning point of the fight, round one!!!! I wept watching this even though it could have been better.... But that incredible back of the neck tingle was still there watching benn enter the ring, even after all these years...guy was an animal, my all time favourite fighter...I just don't get that feeling often these days.....
I'm pretty sure they did show that. I don't know how it was worse than the first round when he didn't go down from a punch? :think
They did, heavily knocked down?. You talking about where he swung with left hook and got clumped to side of head and fell to ropes?. I found it strange they used American commentary....
:thumbsupAlong with Lennox and Hagler, Benn is in my top 3 fighters. Love him to bits. My expectations were'nt high for this doc, as ITV are ****! But it was good stuff, admittedly it coulda been better, but still very good. Benn can always walk with his head held high for the entertainment and excitement he continually gave us. Our most exciting fighter in my and many peoples opinions. Miss him and would like to see him get some tv work, but he is too outspoken for some of the predictable shows on our screens so can't see it. Nuff Respect. ps They did show that knockdown btw.
I remember benn being heavily knocked down and exhausted...just shows how time plays tricks with memory...I remember it being a more valiant comeback than the first ....my favourite fight I remember watching it live, unbearable excitement...benn said listen, iv had more knockouts than he's had fights....some bottle.... That fight had everything I love about this game of ultimate consequence, and Everything everyone hates....a hero, a villain, a heroic comeback and adversity overcome, animal instinct, human tragedy it was a ten round morality play you watched with the same grim fascination as You would an unfolding car crash.....
:goodGood post I know the knockdown was Benn falling off balance, but it was the ****ing bomb of a right hand that lead to it what you remember. A lot of men woulda been sleeping from that. Nearly everytime i watched Benn fight it was a rollercoaster, but like you said this one had it all.
