roy did test positive for andro in 2000. it was available legally over the counter in supplements at that time and wasn't banned until 2004. the ibf considered it an anabolic steroid. this is the only time jones tested positive and it was for a legal over the counter supplement.

the boxing media during this time (and now for that matter) didn't like jones at all but there was hardly any mention of this. why wasn't more done to expose this story? the answer is that there's not much to report. jones took something that was legal to buy but banned by the ibf.

the ts is saying steroids weren't tested in boxing until 2002 and that is not true. frans botha tested positive in 1995 and was stripped of his belt after beating axel schultz.

The thing is, Roy was a physical freak in ring, no-one could match him in that department. He looked like possibly the most physically gifted boxer of all-time. Him testing positive for steroids should've put a black mark on his legacy, but it seems to have not even put a dent in it. It would be interesting to see if a guy like Pac, similarly a physical freak of nature in the ring, is granted the same benefit should he ever get caught.

Very, very interesting read. When I get back from work I'm going to go through this in more detail.

It certainly does raise a lot of questions about RJJR. I've always considered him to be one of my all time favourite fighters, even knowing that he was at some point found guilty of having taken steroids. I'll admit, I'm guilty of overlooking the issue but reading this post has enlightened me.

The evidence in this post could be used to accuse ALL fighters (pre-steroid testing) of using steroids.

Opened up a can of worms here lol!

As far as I'm concerned, a vast amount of fighters take some kind of performance enhancing drugs.

Too much at stake, too much money to be made and absolutely nothing in place to stop people from doing it. Athletes in other sports with very strict testing protocols still use PEDS, yet people believe that boxers don't?

Who is the writer quoting that info from? The head of Indiana who actually has the results says it was for an anabolic steroid. So where is that writer getting his info from?

That's not true both Jacob Hall and Murad Muhammad(head of the IBF) says that no one in the boxing media asked them about it. Hall said he wanted to go public but no one in his commitee supported him
That was in Germany, I was referring to testing in America

I think Richard Hall should get a refund on the steroids. It didn't do **** for him.

RJJ's mah boy but yeah, he definitely should have been handed a banning for this.

    exactly.

you get people taking PEDs in sports with less reward, less danger and more testing but we're supposed to believe boxers don't do it.

add in the amount of dodgy characters in boxing and you're as well believing in the tooth fairy as believing in a clean sport.

nigel benn denied using steroids in the g man fight on itv in the uk on monday. i'd bet my left ball on both fighters that night being juiced to the gunnels.

I have to agree with you here.

When Vargas was busted juicing he got a 9 month suspension and a $100,000.00 fine...When James Toney got caught for the 2nd time in his career he got a $2000 dollar fine and a slap on thr wrist....And when Mosley was EXPOSED, he couldn't have possibly known that what Conte was injecting into his abdomen wasn't a Vitamin cocktail, after all, he has a great smile...! and nothing ever happened to him, even though he became a a unified 154 champion in his thrid division under the influence of PEDS. AND to make matters WORSE, in a fight 80% felt he lost!!

its always good to see a fanboy facing up to reality and not trying to delusionally sweep cheating under the carpet and pretend it didn't happen :deal
