They are giving it quite the build up. Next monday, half hour highlights programme. Ward-Kessler and Froch-Kessler. On Tuesday, Ward-Green and Froch-Abraham. Can't see the listings past that but they will have the next 3 evenings before the fight with stuff aswell i assume. Biggest countdown in terms of length during fight week that Sky have ever done id say for a fight on Sky Sports. Great though.
It's one of the biggest fights of the year! So glad to see Froch getting the big push, if only Fat Mick wasn't such a useless cretin Frochy might be a household name by now, even accounting for boxing not being all that big nowadays.
Totally agree. If i had a slight criticism of Sky though, they aren't drumming home the enormotity a Froch win here. Super six final aside and even unification, he is fighting a guy who is and don't quote me on it something like 160-0 pro and amateur ! Like jesus, imagine been the person that ends a that run. Ward is that good that if Froch wins its definetely up there with great wins by British fighters, ever really. They are underselling that angle of the fight slightly and focusing on the marbles too much.
Yeah, I think Ward is still not quite in the position where he's attaining the stature and reputation of say, Don Curry. But the Super Six means nothing to me, it's just been a tough, competitive and talented division and the two best are going to square off. I'd make more of what a stylistic disadvantage Frochy is up against instead, and how much he's going to have to overcome to win the fight.
True, what worked against Pascal and Taylor in those fights where physically he had to expende everything, that won't work with Ward. I actually think it's not going to be a fight thats going to be particulary taxing physically for Froch. Don't get me wrong he will feel it in there against Ward who himself is gonna have to dig very deep, but i think Froch will have had fights where he was more physically wrecked than the Ward fight. His problem is more mental in this, i think Ward is going to frustrate the shite outta him, get Froch to deviate from any gameplan he has and when he realises he needs to make a late rally its the 12th and he is well behind, kinda fight !
I think Frochy will get hit a lot here, not as much as against Kessler, but Ward will get inside, fire at will and rough him up. Gonna' be a long night for 'The Cobra' methinks :-(
This is what separates Sky to the other guys: dedicated advertisement and selling. If only the other promoters had brains....
Depending on how Ward approaches it, this could be a 'boring' fight from the view point of a casual fan. One where people like us on this forum are sitting there marvelling at the little subtlties.
