Mike was an astute student of the sport, by his own admissions if that was the real Larry Holmes in there I wouldn't have stone a chance....huge mikey fan but Holmes prime is a nightmare for him....I think this win is one of mikes best ever though....

A younger Holmes would have frustrated Tyson. The version Tyson faced just came out of retirement and was actually asking for the fight to be held at a later date so he could get rid of some ring rust. Holmes looked scared of Tyson that whole fight.

I've heard people say this before and then I saw the fight for myself. I don't have a ****ing clue what you all are talking about. Tyson didn't seem to be bothered in the slightest by anything Holmes did. Evidence by the scorecards where Tyson won every round and finally ended it in just the fourth round by knocking Holmes out cold.

Tyson frustrated by Holmes? Naww... Tyson DEEE-STROYED Larry with relative ease.

You don't need to go to Holmes to find a frustrated Mike.

He actually did quite well in the third round and was given that round by two of the three judges. Saw the fight back in 88' when I was just a kid, and maybe 2 or 3 times since.. He did the best he could, given the circumstances and got some shots off, but for the most part, he was a cake walk for Tyson, who at that point was just unstoppable.

I think you need to actually watch that fight, Holmes dominated Snipes for the entire fight up until the knockdown, then he got up and was beating Snipes again by the end of the round. The stoppage was a bit premature, but Snipes was only a few punches away from being dropped or out on his feet.

ive seen it several times...im not saying snipes dominated him, but if a guy with 14 fights could do that to him......
....carl the truth williams also kicked his butt...styles make fights....tyson would have got him eventually or chased him around the ring for 12 rounds no mattter what version of holmes was standing there....

Tyson was pretty much prepped since before he turned pro to fight and beat a Holmes like fighter. In fact even when he was pro the thought of a potential Holmes fight was acknowledged as a inevitability.

Holmes was a brilliant fighter who unfortunately had the misfortune of facing one of the best H2H fighters at the height of his powers.

Snipes caught Larry when Larry was being careless. Holmes was winning handily, got careless, paid the price by being hit with a helluva shot, got up and was beating the hell out of Renaldo with right hands by the end of the round.

The Williams fight was very close, I had it even going into the 15th round, and imo Larry won the fight by winning the 15th round. Larry was very faded by his fights with Williams, Smith, Michael Spinks, and Bey. He had been on the decline since around the Cooney fight.
