I think Cotto's short hard crisp punches would take care of Kirkland.

Kirkland is **** but I do think that he may prove difficult for Cotto based mainly on his size and strength. If Cotto can take the power of Kirkland he should get a comfortable UD but would need to weather an early storm.

What are you talking about? Are you talking about an actual knock out, not a stoppage? Because that's a bit daft.

Kirkland takes this one! He's a pressure fighter with power and very good conditioning. Also he showed an improved jab in his last fight when he was boxing pretty well. Kirkland might go down once against Cotto but I think he would come back to stop him in the championship rounds.

So what? He's won his last 3 fights (all at 154) by stoppage and has a 77% KO against top level opposition. He certainly has enough power to stop Kirkland whether the Ishida loss was down to conditioning or not

I can see what you're saying, but to me that's not the greatest measure of power because it excludes a lot of other factors, such as the ref stopping a fight after multiple knockdowns, the ref stepping in and saving a fighter from being KOed etc. The way you have presented it kind of implies that he can't put a dent in his opponent and has to settle for boxing to decision wins.

If you present it the other way, he's won (approx) 7 out of12 fights since 2005 by stoppage.

He has pop to hurt you, and if you're open to be hit by combinations and well timed counters and don't have the best chin then I think he'll hurt you.

Also, how common are actual KOs compared to TKOs nowadays anyway? I'm sure there are lot of highly regarded punchers out there right now with more TKO than KO wins.

Anybody who thinks Kirkland could beat Cotto is sniffing glue.

Cotto molests him. He'd punch between the many holes Kirkland leaves, and he'd knock him out eventually.

This is the thing - Cotto is a very accurate puncher, throws 2/3/4 punch combinations, counters well and still showed very impressive speed against Marg. He's also a competent defensive fighter with a good boxing brain. I think he put on a bit of a show in an entertaining fight and stops Kirkland.

Would love to see the fight

Mayora's left thumb broke, Foreman's knee gave out and Margarito was coming back from having his orbital bone smashed.

I'm not trying to rip Cotto, I like him, but he would NOT take out Kirkland in less than 5 rounds like some folks are saying, and the only way he does take him out, is from Kirkland gassing late in the fight.
