I currently have Cotto behind Tito in PR's ATG list. What would he need to do to surpass Tito. Maybe beat Pac or Floyd? Or would beating a number of other good fighters do it? (i.e. Martinez, winning a title at 160, etc)

Nothing...Unfortunately there is not enough talent in this era of boxing to make good fighters great.

Technically speaking, if Cotto were to win a title at 160 and be the only PR to he a 4 division champ, wouldn't that kind of be enough?

I hear ya IsaL. I do think that if Cotto were to get a title at 160 to become the first Boricua to get 4 title in 4 different weight classes, that would put up there with Tito.

Realistically speaking, he'd have to go back in time, hope there's a God, and pray for better overall ability, because he doesn't have what it takes to surpass Trinidad. Not a knock on him, he's had a wonderful career, but he's just not a great fighter and he's lacking in too many areas.

For the sake of giving an answer, if he beat Mayweather, Pacquiao, Martinez at middleweight, and defeated a number of guys like Alvarez, Lara, Kirkland, Dzinziruk, Chavez Jr, etc., he'd have a case. But it's not going to happen.

It's so easy now a days to be a multiple division champion. So if Cotto moved up and picked up at title at 160 against someone of Foreman's calibre, I would not ne impressed.

If he beat Canelo and JCC JR he's close the gap but would still be behind.

The problem is Cotto doesn't have the long undefeated streak Tito had. That's really what makes fighters into big deals. Cotto is a great fighter but we've seen him lose, seen him when he's down. Tito was considered superman. Cotto can never touch the Tito myth and because of that won't be as big. But it's all just myth. If Cotto redeems himself with great performances there's still time.
