After seeing Miguel Cotto's performance this weekend, I can make some predictions about the future of his career. I noticed that even though he boxed beautifully (I have always admired his fundamentals and technique), he showed some huge warning signs of bad things to come. First, even though Margarito was slow and plodding, he was still able to get Cotto in trouble a couple of times. Second, Cotto "stopped" Margarito in the 10th, but aside from Margo's eye, Cotto's face looked worse for wear. I think that mentally (Cotto's mind) and physically (Cotto's face) cannot hold up anymore. I think that when Cotto gets pressured and/or tagged by a good pressure fighter he kind of panics. Also, I think when he gets cut/bruised pretty badly he panics a bit. So you can imagine the problems one of the elite in the division would give him. He is an excellent boxer but he has lost that toughness the he used to have. JCC Jr. is his safest option, other than that I can see him taking fairly safe opposition and riding off into the sunset in the next couple of years. I cannot see him taking on the elite in his division and I can almost guarantee that he won't beat any of them.

If you're talking about his first ever loss, he got that right back last sat night. as far as im concerned his records reads only one loss, and that was to one of the best 2 fighters of this era. It should be noted that he literally trained alone for that fight, without a proper coach. Had he the current coach for the pacman fight, I know for sure cotto would have made it more even than before
the guy is a hardworking humble family man whats not to like hes showed great heart in all his fights even the greats lose at some point that loss to pac shouldnt define a mans carreer and it wont
he lost way more than the fight when he first fought margarito. It is obvious that all of the sudden heavy tattooing is his way of compensating for the new found lack of confidence and traces of fear that he now has. He exhibited both of these traits in the the rematch when the going got tough.
Cotto should stay as far away from the young guns Alvarez and yes, Chavez Jr. Both of these guys are young , strong and will impose their strength and will on Cotto. Cotto should retire. He doesn't need the money, and he's starting to slow down as far as his speech goes. He's getting hit too much. He will end up like the Great Wilfredo benitez that never got hit much. Cotto gets hit 100% more than Benitez. Cotto, it's time to call it a career. You have accomplished alot in a tough and brutal sport. Go home to your family and enjoy fruit of your labor.
Eventually you have to say goodbye to your favorite fighter. As much as I love watching Cotto, I would rather have him retire at the end of 2012 than press on too much longer. If he wants a shot to avenge his loss to Pac, I'm for it. But win or lose, after that night he needs to walk away.
