Who would you favor to outbox Thomas Hearns at welterweight?

    SRL?

That was a comeback for all times and ages, few couldve pulled that out ofthe hat. And yeah, Tommy had outboxed and outpointed him up to the 14th round stoppage.

Leonard is arguably Top 10 p4p for a reason, and alot of that has to do with hearns and his abilities; why its such a monsterous W on his resume.

Nah, Pete would be in a Benitez situation. Forced to lose 'respectfully'.

No one outboxed Tommy Hearns for extended periods. You had to get in his grill to beat him.

No one. Awesome thread question, too. Nicely played, OP.........

The rationale for this can be illustrated nicely in his win over Benitez. Yeah, I know, that was at 154, but the idea is the same; others may somehow approach his speed or boxing acumen, but he also had the freakish height and reach, which he used extremely well. Benitez was on his game that night, but he was just physically outmatched. It wasn't a matter of what he did wrong, he just didn't have those tools.

    No welterweight did.

It's the threat of the power he carried as well.HAving to be constantly wary of how often he could let devastating right hands go.

A Hearns with average power would still be very tough to outbox, but not nearly as much.

Yes. Most often, his opponents were kept busy reacting to threats or perceived threats. Makes a boxer's job easier for sure.

I don't think anybody outboxes hearns at welterweight. Too tall too fast. Maybe sugar ray
robinson. Honestly I've seen more footage of hearns. Thoughts? Hearns has superb
boxing skills and dynamite in the right hand if anybody starts gets close

Robinson's got a shot at matching him in a fast-paced chess match. That's about it though from what I can think of.

I think Robinson just might be able to outpotshot him; faster, and with the power to make Hearns a bit tentative.

Burley maybe, in that he'd be a puzzle that Hearns might not solve over 15. I'd favor Tommy in a rematch thereafter, though.

Noone from 147-154 could outbox him in my book. He would have to be knocked out to be beaten.

I think Ray would just blast through him myself, unless he was actively trying to prove this hypothesis correct ;-) :good
