For the first time in HBO history, Larry Merchant and Max Kellerman will commentate the Khan-Peterson fight together this Saturday night along with Jim Lampley. Emmanuel Steward is busy in Germany with Wlad Klistchko and was training him for his recently postponed fight. Roy Jones Jr has a fight scheduled himself against Max Alexander. It should be interesting. I wonder who will get the post-fight interview?
Great. I don't know who is worse, Max or Larry. Kellerman is a bloviator of epic proportions and Merchant is just a joke. When is HBO gonna fire his tired ass? He will **** up the fighter's names at least 6 times and who has time for him to finish a sentence... the rounds are only 3 minutes. HBO needs to wake up and always have someone with at least a little, REAL fight experience to give us some legitimate insight. I'm sure by the end of this fight, Kellerman will be calling Kahn the GREATEST fighter of all time or some other spin of his BS.(No offense to Kahn) His radio show in LA is pathetic and I don't see why he is constantly given the chance to do anything. He is a smug little douche that wouldn't last 10 seconds in the ring and doesn't deserve the right to criticize any fighter over any public medium. Is he really the only option out there? That guy is so full of it and is the king of over-sensationalizing EVERYTHING!! It sucks Roy Jones Jr. can't do the call.
Am i the only one thats getting sick and tired of listening to Lampley being AMAZINGLY biased? I know Kellerman is annoying and Merchant is getting senile and both of them have a ceirtan degree of favoritism but with Lampley you get the feeling he is not broadcasting a fight but just promoting 1 of the fighters.
This is great! It will be their first joint telecast since Dixon vs. Balboa. :bbb All B.S. aside, I really am happy.
Bet they'll be at each others throats and making sly digs all night. Should be an interesting clash of style actually - Kellerman has the speed of tongue to get off two or three insults in quick succession, whereas Larry is a LOT slower, but can counter with his sharper wit. Who you picking?
I like both; they have their flaws but they give good insight. I think their styles could clash though. This could be a hilariously disastrous night for the HBO production team.
Looking forward to this. I really don't mind both and Kellerman has actually been impressing me lately. It's Lampley that sort of pisses me off.
I actually prefer Kellerman, despite his excessive use of the words "stupendous" and "sensational". Merchant has a better rapport with Lampley though.
