http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/sports/12/08/11/roach-says-mayweather-nothing-marquez "Floyd is a counter-puncher, but a much different counter puncher than Marquez," Roach said in an interview with Boxing Talk. "I think Marquez takes many more chances than Floyd." "Floyd is a tough opponent, but I wouldn't compare him to Marquez because he fights nothing like Marquez," he added. "I think we can take advantage of those habits. He does have some bad habits that can be exposed," Roach said, adding that Mayweather has trouble with speedy southpaws like Pacquiao. "We were working on this game plan before, because we thought the fight was going to happen a lot sooner than it has," Roach said. "I will bring in a whole new crew of sparring partners, guys that can imitate Floyd well. There isn't a lot of guys in the world that are like Floyd, so it would be tough to find them," Roach said. "We would prepare for his counter punching ability, and his speed, which is maybe equal to Manny's, if not better." Roach added that they will have to be "on top of our game" to defeat Mayweather. "I like challenges, and this would be the biggest challenge I've faced as a trainer. I will come up with a game plan to beat this guy. I hope the fight happens soon," he said. thoughts? :bbb different title on another site "bad habits will cost him" http://www.espn.co.uk/boxing/sport/story/125327.html
Roach is not in the habit of coming up with gameplans. Pacquiao's welter opponents have all had similar styles. Left hook happy fighters that stand right in front of you. Pacquiao has employed the same play against all of them, he really only knows that one plan.:!:
Of course ... Roach knows what I know and other smart people around here know and have been saying for years . Floyd has defensive habits that Pacquiao can exploit. I think Floyd knows this too that why he's so damn ***** about fighting him.
got a question for you, ive noticed roachs fighters mostly do the same thing, in and out with speed, pac, khan, and recently linares. what else does he teach?
In order to exploit habits you need an intelligent boxer. Pacquiao isn't an intelligent boxer. Pac fights one way and one way only.
Roach said the same thing when he came in to train Oscar. The question is can Manny make Floyd pay for any mistakes? We all know that Floyd will adapt and do something different if he has to but do you really think Manny is going to be able to do the same. That jab, left, right combo is not going work against Floyd who has the reflexes and timing to counter the **** out of Manny. I hope Arum makes this fight and you will be amazed at how easy it will look in that ring for Mayweather. Manny is tailor made for Floyd.
No you don't. You dont have to be an intelligent boxer to beat Floyd. Pacquiao has the right style to give Floyd all kinds of problems, and he's intelligent enough. His only problem is his size.
There's no denying Roach's a good trainer, but this notion that he's some kind of mastermind that comes up with great gameplans is blown way out of proportion. Lets get real, Pacquiao has fought with basically the same strategy from his rematch with Morales to present. I dont view Roach as a top tier strategist.....but on the issue of Pac, Khan, Linares.......those guys are fast. In and out strategy is normally a winning stategy against most fighters but the very elite.
If you had a brain or knew anything about boxing you'd know that having trouble with Marquez has nothing to do with Floyd because they don't fight anything alike.
