While the SPL is a two horse race, you're looking at a 3 horse race in the EPL. It'll take Man City billions to break a Man U-Chel$ea-Arsenal deadlock. You're going back to Blackburn in 94 to find a winner outside of them. The Old Firm wouldn't be relegated from the EPL. Give them the money that the English teams get from their tv deals and they'd both thrive. They're both bigger clubs than the vast majority of teams in England. I think the game will be in for an overhaul before too long regardless. Teams in the UK are in massive debt and won't be able to sustain it.
How much would Celtic and rangers get from teals if they were in the Epl? IMO it wouldn't be enough for them to buy massive from the get go, which IMO is what they'd need to avoid relegation. Football is in for an overhaul to some extent. There's a new rule coming in stating that clubs can only buy to the amount that they profit From the season. I'm sure there's loop holes around it though, because I don't see the rich bosses being bullied by FIFA. Not too sure if that rule applies to wages as well.
The more rules they impose the more corruption we will see......... let it be a free for all and only the strong survive... u can't police it on a world stage. The NRL and AFL can police it because it's small scale and they have full control with no other leagues out there
The figure isn't even close. You get something like 3 mill for winning the SPL and 20 for getting relegated, in the EPL including parachute payments. A few years ago Celtic beat Man U at Celtic Park in the Champion League, the gap between the Old Firm and the EPL midtable isn't great. Pay the same TV money to Celtic and the Gers and you've got two of the biggest clubs in the world, with huge stadiums on an even keel money wise with the likes of Bolton.
But how much do you think they'd get to spend on transfers, if they were granted entry to the epl. Celtic have **** themselves somewhat over the last few years. They'd need to spend massively to finish mid table, and they'd need to spend smart. The SPL is probably worse than the championship really.
Just about Pecks mate.:good Horrible league to watch....i have Setanta & literally cant wait for it to finish so i can get my Bundesliga fix...which is the league i probably enjoy watching the most in Europe after the EPL. Will struggle to find a more even league than the Bundesliga...biggest crowds too in all of Europe. My team being Dortmund.:deal
I don't get setanta so can't watch much bundesliga. The championship is a fun league to watch though, and easily the best 2nd tier league in the world. Very even comp, with attacking football and you see some scorcher goals in it too. Obviously it lacks world class players and can get a bit overly physical, but it's good to watch.
I agree regarding the championship. A great 2nd tier comp with some real open affairs. As my old man is a die hard Crystal Palace fan, i always keep an eye out & have a soft spot for the Eagles. Bundesliga mate out of the mainland European Leagues is in my opinion the most exciting to watch. Almost anyone can win on any given day, there is about 8 to 10 teams that can win the title every year also. Shame you need Setanta to catch it. As a youngster i was a massive fan of the Dutch Eredivisie, but now that league is only marginally better than the SPL. Setanta show the odd decent game from the French Ligue 1 & the Portuguese Primiera Liga. The El Classico is this wkend on ESPN, so i will try check that out also. I wish ESPN would do better coverage of the Spanish La Liga, the commentating can be woeful at times....
Yeah, that old bald Irish **** is terrible to listen to. Yeah, will definitely watch the Classico. Got a feeling that it'll be a 1-1 draw.
I think they'd get massive sponsorship etc, imagine Celtic especially, a Celtic/Irish/Scottish team in one of the biggest comps in the world? Every American company with some kind of celtic connection would want to be associated with a big team like Celtic, they are iconic, even out here in Australia, i seeas many Celtic shirts as Man U or chelsea It wouldnt take long for some rich **** to buy them anyway & pour millions in Rangers might struggle in the Anglo market however PS...i'm not even a tike
