Toney with relative ease. Calzaghe was made to measure for him. JT would have a field day with a guy who comes forward, throws a lot of weak punches, has a sloppy guard and no head movement. Toney drops him with straight right counters over the top a couple of times en route to a wide decision or maybe even a late stoppage, as Toney had heavy hands at 160 & 168. Stylistically, this is a very good match-up for Lights Out.
Toney. Joe has got a great set of skill, but i'd have to pick Toney. I could watch a vintage Toney all day long.
Calzaghe is very open to right hand counters and Toney's was 1 of the best. However Toney himself is somewhat vunerable to in and out movement and the angles Calzaghe's footwork would create. This makes it an interesting fight. Toney lands the cleaner punches but Calzaghe is busier and controling the movement.
toney would counter him all night long.he may go for a ko,when he feels that joe is just slapping with his punches.joe is not jones who had some serious leverage behind his punches
Close fight, with fans either favouring Calzaghe's volume or Toney's cleaner shots. Something tells me the pace Calzaghe sets will win him this fight.
I have Calzaghe by decision. Toney is great in the pocket but has concrete shoes and never moved well. Calzaghe will give him plenty of movement and not allow him to set up long enough for a rally. Joe was no Iran Barkley. He wouldn't sniff the trenches in this one but make it a dancing contest.
Calzaghe doesn't have anywhere near the fundamental skills that Nunn had, not even close. He would not have the same success that Nunn had early. Please bear in mind that Nunn owning Toney for 11 rounds before Toney landed a Hail Mary is a complete myth. Toney had dominated the last 3 rounds leading up to the decisive punch, he had turned the fight around and was tightening it up on the cards at the point he obliterated Second To.
And every time Calzaghe floated into range he'd miss with an inaccurate flurry and get countered, hard and clean.
Toney didn't like speed and activity, at any weight class. Calzaghe would not KO him, but would fluster him with both. Calzaghe won't be there too often for Toney's counters and will outwork him 5 to 1. Unless Toney captures lightning in a bottle, Calzaghe wins widely.
As much as I like Calzaghe, and consider Toney to be an *******,I have to say that 'Lights Out' would decision Joe. Too skilled, basically.
