Hence why ref decide to stop fights early and the corner throws in the towel.

The sport is worth alot, pride...money...ambition...status...titles...but not your life no way!

The OP was edited after a few pages when someone updated the situation.

Originally the thread title was "Roman Simakov in coma, suffered serious brain damage" - as it was in the post of Slothrop's that you quoted, which you can tell just by looking at your own post. (vBulletin doesn't show the current thread title at the top of your post when you quote an earlier post; it shows what the title was at the time that post was made).

Read the very first page (other than the opening post, which was edited much later) and you'll see that people are responding to the news of Simakov being in a coma, which was the current status at the time. The RIP messages start showing up at page 2 when Whistler broke the tragic news.

I couldn't help but marvel at the courage shown by Simakov, whose last action was to find a way to struggle back to his feet even as his body was in the process of shutting down. It doesn't make this death any less tragic, nor does it alter the fact that it could have been prevented, either due to actions taken before the fight or by applying proper care to Simakov after the stoppage...But it's something that should be noted in any event.

    RIP Roman.

Sorry for any confusion there. It wasn't my intention to start any debate other than pointing out how the more bloodthirsty and less compassionate "boxing fans" are the exact reason that the people in the industry (physicians, referees, chief seconds) allow things to go on too long...thinking they're 'giving fans what they want'. In reality it's only a barbaric vocal minority of fans.

Granted, there are stoppages like Calzaghe-Manfredo (and many more in especially the UK, just part of the boxing culture there) that do seem legitimately premature as nobody is actually in any clear and present danger.

Stuff like Sergey Kovalev vs. Roman Simakov (especially by the halfway point of the sixth), Michael Katsidis vs. Czar Amonsot, Vic Darchinyan vs. Victor Burgos, Jesus Chavez vs. Leavander Johnson , Z Gorres vs. Luis Melendez in the tenth round (even though Gorres got the win by hanging on - but so the **** what?) - these are examples of why when someone is in clear and present danger it should always be stopped, with or without a count or even a knockdown. Sadly, those are all just examples from the last half decade or so - and probably nowher near a complete list, just what sprang to mind. All preventable tragedies. Yet people want these supposedly "natural conclusions" no matter what and whine about how "soft" modern boxing has become. That is what helps perpetuate these acts of senseless butchery. The whim of some "fans".

It's hard not to get mad at those idiots when things like this happen.

Yeah, pretty much that whole clique of idiots. The sycophants & yes-men...unless they're all just alt accounts of the same person.

You're right, though - we should keep this about Simakov who gave everything he had.

Completely agree with everything you said here.
Outside of a bull**** stoppage like Calzaghe vs Manfredo i rarely complain about a fight getting stopped.

God knows i was yelling at the screen during the Vitali vs Briggs fight, hell even the Pac vs Margarito fight.

    Good post man.
