I just mean in general, I wasn't knocking you mate! Most people start shadowboxing in the mirror before they start boxing training(including me) and you think you are good but then you go to the gym and find thats not the case lol
Yeah, right after taking a shot to the head every 12 seconds. The trainer's old, so his reaction time is a little slower, hence the 3 second delay.
Those guys who spar on their first, second and third days what the hell do you go in the ring with? no way you learn to throw your punches and learn to move, defend etc in a few days.
I'm certainly no proponent of throwing a guy in the ring right away to "test" him. I believe sparring is earned by showing hard work and a willingness to listen and learn, and that takes a bit of gym time. However, I've seen some guys out there that have never been in a gym that can throw down with some good boxers. They just aren't as well conditioned for the long haul. So, I won't say it shouldn't happen, but I believe it is a rare occurrence to put a new, unskilled guy in the ring just to see what he has.
Honestly, I know I'll get my ass kicked by an experienced fighter, but I wouldn't mind sparring on the first day. It will help me learn what I need to work on, and it'll help my coach assess what I need to work on.
It'll also let you know if you are cut out for boxing. I'm a big fan of people sparring there first night or after a few days.
Even if I'm not "cut out" for boxing, I won't quit. Practice makes almost perfect (can never be perfect).
