I will never agree that Cotto and Hatton were dead.
They were still prime or very near their prime and were genuine threats to Pac.
Especially Cotto. I still believe that it was Pac's best win since he moved north of LW, followed closely by Hatton.

Margarito and Clottey were far from dead as well. They were simply outclassed and proved nowhere near Pac's caliber.

Even JMM. He proved lots of naysayers wrong last Nov 12.

they didnt witness how pacquiao survived the margarito-like hands of most thai boxers he fought. and probably didnt see how he beat the supposed to be invincible barrera.

 

He's had one garbage meaningless fight, shot to **** Shane Mosley for 25 million dollars. Would 'Too Sharp' have turned down 25 million dollars for a fight? Don't think so.

 

They weren't dead:

Clottey was welter #5 at the time. He had somehow (mysteriously?) entered Dan Rafael's #20 spot on his top 20 p4p in February before March fight.

de la Hoya was 35, last career fight, plus had fought at welterweight as recently as 8 YEARS prior. What was his excuse? "8 years!" Outrageous... Recent outings include losses to Hopkins, Sturm, rival Mayweather, and victories over Mayorga and Steve Forbes.

Mosley. He wasn't just 0-1-1 with the draw to Contender famed Mora and the loss, a wipe out to his rival Mayweather.

Margarito. This pathetic bum was not a top 1,000 fighter p4p when Pac fought him. His recent outing being a demolition via Mosley. Oh, and the whole part about the plaster and giving him 3 mil and his never ever should've fought ever again.

David Diaz was not a sexy option for him to fight. Not horrible, but let's be honest: fresh off a loss to rival Morales.

Miguel Cotto is his second/third best win in his career but he'd just been given a plastered beatdown (which some would say take time off your career) not long before, plus, a good 25% of people think Joshua Clottey had managed to pull it off in his fight immediately before... so...

Hatton KO is wicked. But, he had just been fighting fluff since being victim to another wicked KO loss to hands of rival Mayweather.

JMM, the third go around, was a 38 year old lightweight who'd only ever ventured above there to fight and lose to rival Mayweather. Plus, we must consider that 75% say Marquez won clear.

Diaz? I would say. Morales had just beaten him by everybody's view the fight before Pac got him.

de la Hoya, he was 35 and his last fight at welterweight was back when he was 28. Lost more than he won over his final stretch, too.

Hatton? Just like de la Hoya, it was his final fight.

Clottey, maybe? If you say no, then the Cotto performance likely suffers in perception.

I think looking back, Margarito is a stronger win than first expected. Obviously people are inclined to disagree with how Margarito's last few fights went, but I thought it was a great win and he really done a number on Margarito without relying on the hitting and holding technique. He simply outboxed him and did what Cotto couldn't. There were people that saw it going the same way as the Cotto fight, I was skeptical.

Clottey would be a good win too, but it depends how much you read into his trainer issues. I don't believe Clottey came to fight, how could he?

The Cotto win was a great one, this is the one people jump on the most saying he's damaged goods but I really don't think he is. Cotto's fought back from his career defining fight like a warrior and whilst I thought Margarito was coming on strong at the end of the second fight and thought it would be interesting to let it carry on, it wasn't really possible to let him. Pacquiao proved he's not a fighter to be pressured, it was quite impressive how he took Cotto down twice.

The Mosley fight, again, was one of those where the opponent tasted the power and then came to survive, maybe Mosley never truly expected to win which I think is true, but he probably did have a bash at it but as soon as he got knocked down he didn't want to risk it any further. It could be either. The fact that he knocked down Mosley is constantly overlooked and is still something to take away from the fight.

The Hatton one was outstanding because of how he put him away and decimated him. Of course Hatton was coming in to the fight past his best and quite frankly, out of his mind, but the fact that Pacquiao took him out in such a brutal manner was the reason it was so impressive. He counterpunched Hatton to **** in the second whereas it took Mayweather 10. Not attacking Mayweather because although he's a deceptive puncher, he takes his time, but Hatton has an underrated beard and whilst he tasted the canvas a few times in his career and was hurt against less than stellar opposition such as Lazcano, he ate counterpunches up and kept coming forward, even when he was down multiple times.

The De La Hoya one is a stupid decision by Oscar and is constantly used to blame Pacquiao for fighting him. Floyd didn't exactly fight him when he was hot either. It was a moronic decision by De La Hoya and Pac capitalised, but people think this is where his career begun as pointed out by previous posts and it's simply not true.

The Marquez fight was a win for Marquez, but it was closer than a lot of people will admit, but for me, I didn't score the fight but when it was over I did think Marquez won. Marquez a ****ing G, grabbed a great win over Pacquiao and rather than show credit to him, it's deflected against Pacquiao and used as yet another attack.

Pacquiao neither needs to be underrated or overrated. Only a hater will try to attack Pacquiao's accomplishments, he has the best resume in the business today, but he's not superman. He has his kryptonite, which is a counterpuncher such as Marquez. I think Mayweather would only prove a more patient and defensive counterpuncher would have even more success, the only questions are if he can pick up fast and if he really has any fear of Pacquiao's pressure. I do believe Mayweather has some sort of jealousy for Pacquiao, and a fear for losing his streak and undefeated record. However, do I think he's afraid of Pacquiao? Not at all, I think he's insanely jealous but mostly, he's afraid of losing, it's what makes him stand out as an ATG. If Pacquiao took his 0, he would never be remembered as a GOAT (but obviously a HOFer). This fight would be to decide who truly is the GOAT, but if it doesn't go ahead which I don't think it will, it's likely to go on their own merits, which at this point Mayweather would be still discussed as an opponent for the ATG's such as Leonard and Duran and more people would pick him to win these fights than Pacquiao, but I don't think his accomplishments would be rated higher than Pac's unless he defeats him.

tl;dr; Morales and Marquez a G. Let's make them fight. God vs. God.

 

Its rather remarkable. He had that slimy promoter who kept butting him in with the best. Ever since Arum it has been a cherry pick festival.

 

The DLH fight was seen as an unwinnable challenge, and Pac was expected to take a beating. Just because DLH stuffed up his preparation, Pac shouldn't pay for it with the idiots now acting like he cherry picked Oscar and didn't take a risk.
Pac went up two divisions to 147 after just one fight at 135 and having fought at 130 in the same year. When was the last time someone jumped 3 divisions in a year and won a fight?
I know Mark Johnson didn't take a challenge like that. He didn't even fight the best in his division, Arbachakov, or Sasakul like a 19 year old Pac DID. Mark Johnson is talking ****. Love these guys who trash Pac's achievements but didn't have the balls to challenge themselves like he did when they were boxing.

The Margarito win is not treated as significant or a great win, but it's not meaningless either. Margarito was one of the top few welters of his era. He was past his best, possibly was aided by plaster throughout his career, he still managed to hit Pac more than anyone else had in a fight except the first Morales fight and hurt him so bad Pac's wife had to help him walk only hours after and had him reportedly lying in a bed in the fetal position for a couple of days. It was a good win over a tough and proven opponent who outweighed him by 17lbs.
Again, Mark Johnson never faced or overcame a challenge like that. Mark Johnson never went up to face guys like Johnny Tapia or Danny Romero.

Clottey, Cotto were two of the best welters and gave all the top welters they fought tough fights, including each other, well except for Pacquiao. Hatton was the lineal 140 champ, unbeaten there, coming off his greatest win since Tszyu. Diaz, no-one ranks as a great win. It was a great perfomance though at his first fight at 135 against a tough fighter.

It's only because it's Pacquiao and the hype surrounding him that haters like to **** on these wins. The perspective that is needed to judge his achievements properly will come later. This guy got KTFO twice at flyweight, and ran through these top guys who gave everyone a tough fight in their careers at 140-147 like they were bums

Why did he bring up Pac's name? Is it necessary to mention "Pac" in order for people to take notice of you?

If NTS johnson did not mention Pac's name, would anybody even discuss that he actually gained entry to the HOF.

From minimum weight to heavyweight, it seems that it is the norm that at least they mention Pac. Even Klitscho mentioned Pac. Why are they not mentioning Gayweather. His resume is 10 times shittier.
