If Kabary Salem can time Calzaghe and put him down hard, the smw Toney would knock him out.

Your logic is too simplistic, obviously.

People always think past fighters can always beat modern fighters.

    Joe Calzaghe wins!

The very best version of Toney, focused and in shape against a less than top form Calzaghe ?

    Toney could take the decision.

The most usual version of both fighters in their 168 lb days ?

Joe takea a wide decision, frustrating Tony with speed and work rate.

Toney was the more skilled of the two, but Calzaghe's pressure would prove too much for Lights out.

BTW, is this the same Toney who predicted that Lacy was going to brutally stop Joe ?

Calzaghe's pressure wouldn't bother Toney in the slightest. Toney has an iron chin and a superb defence, and Calzaghe even at his best threw inaccurate slapping punches with very little power behind them. I think you're confused because a stamina-shorn toothless Bernard Hopkins couldn't master Calzaghe convincingly. The mw/smw Toney was on Hopkins' level in terms of skills, but also had the energy levels and aggression of a young fighter. For the same reasons that a prime Hopkins trounces Joe C, Toney wins this one very clearly. A prime, fit counterpuncher with excellent technique is THE Kryptonite for Calzaghe's relatively low-skill volume-punching approach.

What possible relevance could this have to the topic at hand? :huh

I didn't say that Calzaghe would stop Toney, but lights out's iron chin wouldn't prevent him from losing a wide points decsion.

I would have taken the relevance to be obvious, or at least as relevant as Bernard's dental shortcomings.

Was this the same BHop who recently beat Dawson's daddy? Twice?

Ahh....the fantasy world of the Toney nuthugger, in which he magically lands flush counters at will.

Calzaghe by a clear, ugly UD.

Lights Out's iron counters would prevent him from losing any type of decision to someone as wide open to be hit as the Welsh Windmill.

Past-prime Hopkins's decline in power and aggression was of central importance to his fight with Calzaghe.

Prime Toney's power and aggression off the back foot would be of central importance to a fight with Calzaghe.

Past-prime Toney making a public prediction on one fight that Calzaghe had against one of Toney's countrymen has absolutely zero relevance to all of the above.

I don't rate Pascal at all, Dawson will dominate the living **** out of him in a rematch.

Anyway, we already know that the past-prime Hopkins performs well when guys fight him at his own pace (Tarver, Pavlik, Pascal) and can no longer perform well when they don't (Taylor, Calzaghe, probably Dawson).

We know all of this, it's old obvious news.

    Comical
You mean Toney who couldnt beat S Williams at first ask :bart
Toney who looked lucky against Tiberi
Toney who lost to D Thadzi :patsch

look at the level Toney was fighting at, when SMW champ

1993 he wins the title from iran barkley a fighter who years earlier was blown away by nigel benn in 1 round and pummelled to a loss by a shot roberto duran barkley went onto lose 11 out of 25 fights following this fight and never beat anyone who was remotely good in doing so,the guy was so desperate he was even plying his trade as a HW in the late 90's against the likes of berbick and they say this era is a joke

govonor chambers a guy with a career record of 9 wins 7 losses, all 3 fights prior to toney were ko losses!

ricky thomas: won 11 lost 14,the 4 fights he had prior to toney all losses!

glenn thomas:won 29 lost 8, lost to roy jones prior to toney and finished his career with a first round ko loss to jeff lacy.

danny garcia: won 30 lost 22, was coming off losses to chris pyatt (a steve collins victim) lamar parks etc

larry prather: won 19 lost 24,lost his last 5 fights prior to the toney fight even losing to nicky piper

tony thornton: won 37 lost 7,lost to chris eubank a year earlier.

anthony hembrick: won 31 lost 8,lost to maske prior to toney and orlin norris a year earlier.

tim littles: won 27 lost 3,maybe one of his better wins, had fought mainly bums with the exception of a close UD over frankie liles, went onto lose to frankie liles in a 2nd contest following the toney fight.

vinsom durham: won 21 lost 37 enough said.

charles williams: won 37 lost 7 drew 3,lost to maske prior to toney.
(this post was improvised from ESB great Silencer, on one of his great threads)and finally the Jones fight and, That was Jones big SMW victory where Toney was alledgedly weight weakend, other than that Jones didnt do much at SMW.

Toney would be beaten far worse than how Tiberi beat him.
Calzaghe would outwork Toney, see Toneys overhand shots and slip them to earn a clear UD

some of the comments on here are why joe wanted to protect his precious zero and didn't dare to be great against better competition. you don't actually have to be great, just let them think you are. only a fool could be fooled into thinking he has any chance here.
