Froch v Ward - Sparring Partners????

    Is it easier for Froch to find someone like Ward to spar with or easier for Ward to find someone like Froch to spar with?

    People say how awkward Froch is and that is why he has got to where he is so i'm trying to think how Ward could find someone to replicate that.

    I think it would be easier for Froch to find someone to spar with who could replicate Ward's speed because he could spar with say a light middle for the speed work. (I'm not saying Ward is just about speed but 50% of what he does is down to his speed).

    I honestly think that Froch's awkwardness could pose big big problems for Ward as the fight goes on.

    In sparring you don't wan't an exact replica. You want 3 fighters who fight from the same stance as the opponent, that do 1 or 2 things the oppenent does well so you can specifically work on those areas. No fighter is exactly the same as another.

    For Ward ideal sparring would be someone like Marco Huck for the power, Gabriel Campilo for the strong left jab, and Brian Magee for all round work.

    For Froch ideal would be DeGale for speed, Andy Lee for awkwardness, and Cleverly for speed and work rate.

    On Ringside Froch was sparring with Tony Bellew.

    He said he wanted to spar DeGale but they didn't want anything to do with it.

    Neither are the easiest to try and replicate to be honest.

    DeGale wouldn't have been the worst, in that he likes to fight in the pocket and can slap at times, and lead with the head, all you've got to do is ask him not to switch hit on a regular basis.

    Froch would be a nightmare to replicate, a pre-Hopkins Pavlik wouldn't be the worst match, in that he's tall, has a thudding jab. Obviously Carl's right hand is delivered differently, more in a looping fashion than crossed.

    How is Lee awkward?

    He’s pretty classical – jab, straight right, occasional uppercut. There’s nothing awkward about him. He’s not very good but he’s pretty textbook which is as you’d expect from a Steward-trained fighter.

    Ward is actually not that fast. Dirrell is MUCH faster. Ward is quicker though and that's what makes him so good. He's extremely quick.

    Yeah I think I read somewhere that Ward wanted to spar with Quillin also but he chose Froch instead.
