Why am I the only one that mentions hamed, I thought he put the little guys on the map when nobody really gave a **** about them, a lot of current bxoers have benefited from this.

I agree with you, Hamed def transcended the sport. In Britain almost everyone has heard of the guy and would recognise a picture and I've noticed that most of the US posters + other non Brits seem to have an opinion on him.

Also he point you make about him making the lighter weights more popular def stands - Hamed brought excitement and kayo power in both hands whereas people normally wouldnt cared of to look below welterweight at fighters. God look at the situation now... above super middle id say love them or hate them people only really look at BHop and The K Bros as world class fighters on the majority. SMW and below is STACKED full of great fighters and a lot of them with huge fanbases.

No mention of Benny Leonard. He is a good shout for an early case of a lighter guy transcending the sport.

I think Monzon could be a case to with his rock star like image in Argantina and across much of South America.

Obviously the likes of JJ, Dempsey, Ali , Tyson.

    Great point.

Agree with RJD88 to. Hamed gets notoriety from American fans aswell as British to. I've heard various American fighters refer to him. Andre Ward uses something he calls the saw jab, something he got from watching Hamed if I recall the interview. Malignaggi is another fighter who reps Hamed as one of his favourites.

I think Eubank and Hatton put a lot into Boxing from a British perspective to.

    Chauncy Welliver

His career is amazing itself. Going from a 16 year old winning tough man contests, getting kicked out of the ams for it, to now the #6 WBC HW in the world.

He was also the Welliver who came out of nowhere. All the attention was on his brother Dumont who was an absolutely world class amateur. Chauncy went into boxing to be like his brother and to get to travel like him, and he has blossomed from there.

But his boxing game, is probably going to be his least used tool in the sport, hard to believe with a man with 61 HW fights already at 28 years old, but true. Welliver is also one of the premier boxing analysts in the world. He has bi weekly appearances on Spokane AM radio every other saturday morning. He does consistent work witht he top online boxing show in the wolrd, ESB's On The Ropes, and he has been featured many times in the Russian press for his views on fighters. When his career is over, he will be a permanent boxing fixture, in the analyst game, if he chooses to do so.

Another thing with the man is that he has serious managerial and promotional talent. He originally just wanted to be his brothers manager and not a fighter. Today he works with many young fighters, from his brothers gym in Spokane/509 territory to the youth of China every time he goes there. His contacts in the sport are absolutely top notch and world wide. This weekend he will be again working the house at the WBC convention.

Over the last decade, Chauncy has been helping to pioneer the use of new media in boxing. He works all of the websites and if it were not for him, shows like On The Ropes would not even exist. Chauncy Welliver is the original contact man for OTR. He changed the boxing world right there man. Before anybody else got behind the top female analyst in all of boxing, Welliver was there to help her out. The man has amazing foresight in the ways of expanding boxing and making it bigger and better.

10 years from now, I expect we will see Welliver as a major player in the managerial and promotional ranks. I believe he will be a huge improvement to the likes of Don King, Bob Arum and Goosen boys. Chauncy has class for miles. And he is 1 of the most honest and trustworthy men in all of boxing. I also expect to see him continuing to lead the charge to expand boxing into new markets and increase share in existing markets.

Look at what the man has done recently in China. He is selling out Olympic sized stadiums. The Chines fans and public have adopted him as their HW..The Boxing Panda! He knows how to get the people excited. Many people laughed at him for wearing that Panda hat all around China, but those people love him. He has already made a difference there in thousands of young boxers lives. Chauncy goes in and trains with the youth boxers of China and he also routinely handles autograph sessions there with thousands of signatures at a time. No fans are turned away! No DeLaHoya type of security apparatus keeps the fans from Welliver. He wouldn't let his body guards beat down fans the way Oscar does. Chauncy Welliver is the real Golden Boy of boxing. Oscar is a god damned fraud.
