Discuss: The Most 'Limited' ATG Ever?

I still think wathing a great fight is one of the best things to do, just takes a wee bit of effort and concentraion, and my heads been all over the place lately

At the risk of over simplifying, that was where he won his fights. He had long arms and knew how to keep his man just inside his own range but outside his opponents range.

Exactly. It's like he channeled all that madness and as he went inside his range it personified itself as the stone cold operatoryou see in the ring.

It was crazy. His lifestyle outside the ring, his fame, the ladies, his reputation as a headcase and eventual downfall, you think he'd be some vicious slugger, but no, he was an emotionless killer, like the boxing Michael Myers.

Such an amazing fighter, though admittedly when I first came across him I was completely underwhelmed. He is a classic example of persevering with a fighter and ultimately feeling amongst the most rewarded that you will be as a boxing fan.

Incredible fighter. Subtle genius.

 

He was also beastly strong and tough, that gets over looked cause of his range IMO

Yes, this!

Again, I feel ashamed to make the second comparison between Monzon and the Klitschkos, but his upright stance and his pulling back from shots that came close is quite reminiscent of Vitali IMO. Except Monzon actually knew how to throw proper punches and applied his skills against good fighters

EDIT: I say proper punches but there were some things Monzon did when throwing that were not straight out of a textbook. He'd turn his punches over late into throwing, like they were at halfspeed until just before the point of impact.

 

Far from "limited" in the era he fought in.

 

He got the most out of the ruleset of his time.

I've always fought of him as a spoiler. Clinch, and the occasional choppy right hand or uppercut.

 

This is the thread equivalent of QI full of wanky pretentious men wanking each other off about how much more knowledgeable they are than the average man

Fry is an idiots view of what an intelligent bloke should look like. I know a couple of dozen blokes who would wipe the floor the floor with Fry intellectually.
