Dont get me wrong tommy was great to watch but fighters who could hang in there with him and take a few shots generally got the better of him.the likes of hagler and leonard showed him up for having a weak jaw.i think his height was his main attribute,if you found away padt those long arms he had no answer

He wasn't flawless (no fighter is), but his attributes made him one of the most difficult fighters to solve. It wasn't as simple as just "finding a way" inside. You needed a great chin, an iron will, and a big punch to have a chance of beating him in his prime.

I dont think hearns had one standout win in his career vs a live opponent in their prime in their natural weight division.if you look at his resume it is fairly weak,he went through the weights but there wasnt much around apart from the fighters he lost to

    147: Pipino Cuevas
    154: Wilfred Benitez
    175: Virgil Hill

That's 3 weight classes spanning 28 pounds where he beat prime, highly notable fighters. Then you have wins over Duran, rematch robbery against Leonard, Juan Roldan, Murray Sutherland, Saensak Muangsurin, Randy Shields, Dennis Andries, Doug DeWitt, Luigi Minchillo, James Shuler, Michael Olajide, Bruce Curry, Clyde Gray, etc. Fighters who were highly touted at one point but no longer at their best, but still excellent to decent wins, most of them in emphatic fashion.

You're forgetting that Tommy had the knock-out power of a heavyweight and enormous height and reach advantage for his weight-class. Many fighters would wish they were so "limited".

No, he was very versatile, he just had a couple of glaring flaws - his stamina and his chin. the longer he was with Steward, the more one-dimensional he became.

And the further he went up in weight, the less mobile he became.

What a joke thread!!! I always thought he had the best resume of the last 40 years. He was fortunate to be able to fight 6 guys who will be assured HOF fighters which he was 4-2-1 (2) against hall of fame fighters!!. Why would you make a thread like this? He demolished great punchers Cuevas and Duran and out-boxed the great boxers like Benitez and Hill and should have ahd a win against Sugar ray!!! This guy is no Floyd Mayweather who never looked for great fights. Hell, even his interim fights were against good fighters!!

Let's put it this way. He would have knocked PAC out stone cold inside of 2 rounds.

His knockout of Duran imo i`ve never seen a more spectacular ko of a legendary fighter,Hearns was awesome in that fight, did so much better than the other two rivals.I agree that Hearns wasn`t granite chinned but this thread stater seems a bit lacking in his boxing knowledge.

He had weaknesses, so in that sense he was limited sure. But in comparison with most top fighters he's not limited. He could box, he could knock you out like few others, he could fight from a distance, and even land the short punches.

Acting like height was all he had is blasphemy. He had unbelievable boxing skills, speed, power, a great jab.
