    was the time chosen properly?

That grainy gif of Lewis clearly landing a perfectly legal punch is all the proof that I need to convince me that the fight should of been stopped and ruled a Technical Decision in favour of Vitali

    NOT

Both were legit stoppage, although Vitali's stoppage was more urgent due to his bleeding like a slaughtered pig and a bad KO and possible permanent eye damage was just around the corner.
Margo stoppage was good because he could no longer see out of that eye and would surely take much more punishment because Cotto knows how to take advantage of such a serious disadvantage.

Both were legitamate. But different in what was happening in the fights.

Margarito was being beaten easily by Cotto and I thought at the time of the stoppage there was no way he was going to win even though he could've continued for a few more rounds. All they were doing now was taking a risk with him. He was taking some hard flush shots from Cotto and while Margarito is known for that, he's still pure human and this could be the time he finally ends up a vegestable which wouldn't be good for boxing.

Vitali was a little different but still legit. Vitali was obviously winning the fight at the time of the stoppage. But his eye was bad and any ref or doctor or even trainer with a brain knew that needed to be stopped. I remember them working on the eye and they were putting vaseline right through the hole on his eyelid. I could've stuck my finger right through his cut. He could've lost his eyelid in the next round. Brutal and maybe fun to watch but not good for the sport of boxing.
