What makes Jon Jones almost unbeatable...

...and I say 'almost' because any human can get caught and knocked out.

Tonight, I believe Jon Jones lost the first round and was on his way to losing a stand-up fight, and I believe that Jon Jones knew it.

Lyoto Machida is a great stand-up fighter. I think he is a more skilled, more refined, more experienced, more effective stand-up fighter than Jon Jones is.

But sadly for me and other Machida fans, MMA is not only fought on the feet.

So when Machida was outsmarting and outskilling Jon Jones, what did Jones do?

Used his physical strength to take the fight somewhere he knew that he was comfortable but that Machida wasn't. Machida couldn't live with Jones on the ground on in the clinch.

Herein lies the true greatness of Jones.

I expect that if Jones ever fights Phil Davis, the naturally bulkier Davis would outclass Jones on the ground the way that Machida was doing to Jones on the feet.

    So, what will Jones do?

Yup, he'll take the fight to where he is comfortable but he knows his opponent isn't, and will pick Davis apart using his kickboxing.

Jones's versatility and roundedness is what makes him so special.

I am now finally ready to admit that Jones looks like the greatest fighter there has ever been in MMA. Machida was not flabby and out of shape like Shogun was when Shogun fought Jones. Machida was not a tired, toothless, faded version of himself like Rampage was when Rampage fought Jones, Machida is the real deal.

    All hail Jon Jones.

I'm surprised he did as well as he did on the feet against Machida even though he clearly lost the first round.

Jones has been training striking for three and half years. Machida's been doing it since he was toddler. It was great to see Jones make the adjustment. He dropped Machida, who has a superb base, on his back like it was nothing.

i suppose its natural and easy to forget all the other 'greatest fighter ever in mma' from the past. each belong to their own time, and there have been dominant fighters in the past too.

jones' size is the biggest factor to his success of course. he has tasted defeat in the past and obviously will again.

it amuses me just how many people on the various forums claim jones is the greatest of all-time. its far too quick for that imo.
people have been saying he's better than anderson silva, maybe he wilbut its far, far too early. its ridiculous to say that he is imo.

i can't say i've warmed to him, despite him being a nice guy.[ i like the humble ones!] however i may well in the future.
he does one thing that annoys the hell out of me, and thats the jesus christ thing. so many fighters claim their success is down to god, quite funny really.
still he is not nearly as bad as fedor, who has the brain of a russian peasant obviously.

so i wonder who can beat jones?
i daresay he won't be venturing into the heavyweight division for a long time to come.

:patsch Did you just look up his record on wiki or something? You should probably check out Jon Jones' "loss" to Matt Hamil before you speak on his record.

Lets not ignore that Jones dropped Lyoto in the stand-up fight he was so handily losing in your eyes. It was a perfectly timed punch that allowed Jones to secure the fight ending choke.

Ironically, it was Jones' left that sent Lyoto reeling.

What makes him unbeatable is no mystery and even Rogan is spewing it.

Jones is the greatest athlete this Sport has ever seen. He is that potential NFL player that decided to do MMA instead.

I mean one look at his fights and this is the first thing that jumps out.

I also believe that he opens the door for more high level athletes to train MMA.

Sonnen almost got Silva pregnant, so yes, I would avoid Jones at all cost.

    Jones is not Forrest/Irvin.

I would love to see the fight, though.

i should of been more specific when i said that jones has tasted defeat. i was referring to the days when he was an amateur wrestler.[and also the dq to hamill]
meaning that i'm sure he knows what its like to lose, and he is not this unbeatable fighter so many are putting up on a pedestal.
mind you, i couldn't find his wrestling record so i'm only assuming he didn't win every match[dangerous i know]. however maybe he did do just that? maybe he was a very young superhero way back then as well?

actually i feel that a lot of fighters would of been encouraged seeing this unbeatable bubble around him burst today.
although lyoto lost he did give some insight on how he may be beaten in future fights.
it was great seeing lyoto fight, i think he was doing the right thing regarding going in at jones really quickly and then back out again.

i imagine no one else would like it, but i'd find a rematch very interesting. lyoto would of gained quite a bit today.

i like jone's bentley, very nice!
