He was clearly looking past Peterson and thought this would be a relatively straight forward nights work (as I'm sure a lot of us did too!). Khan fought a pretty silly fight but I do feel for him. I thought the ref was pretty over the top taking two points off. After all, I felt more frustrated seeing Peterson constantly running at Khan and almost into him most of the time. Anyway, I'm pretty sure a more motivated, focussed (and humiliated) Khan will be too much for Peterson.
I've made a long winded post in another thread but i keep it short and sweet. Khan's 2 steps forward 1 step back every time. Peterson pressed Khan and shown again that Khan struggles to box on backfoot under pressure. Peterson actually was appalling at cutting ring off, Khan's mentality attributed to the loss but Peterson dragged him into a war due to his skills and also Khan's flaws.
It will be another hard fight.I picked Amir to win this one and I was wrong.But I pick him to win a rematch.The result last night is not a shocker and he did not get hammered,its a minor set back,he lost to a known good fighter on points.I think he wins a tight UD in the return.
I'm not so sure. I don't think it was Khan's conditioning or his tactics that lost him the fight. His inside game is poor and his defence very leaky and Peterson was able to exploit that. He shouldn't go for a rematch straight away, he's not going to suddenly improve overnight. This loss is a setback for Khan but imagine what another loss in a rematch would do? If he does win a rematch it will be very tough and very close and I don't think it's the right thing for him now.
If Peterson fights like he did after the 2nd round for whole fight in the rematch then he has a great chance of beating Khan again. Khan has no inside game and reacts badly to pressure.
This, plus Lamont being a champion i bet that guys back in gym within a week working his socks off. People are really overlooking how well he did last night and that wasn't even Peterson's style.
This was about styles, not concentration. Even if Khan did overlook Peterson, that's no excuse for him showing the same deficiencies on the inside as we've seen from him before. Peterson looked like one of the divisions best last night, when he's in the lower half of the top ten and has shown before that he's not infallible himself. Khan, as he did against McCloskey, looked very, very sloppy. To Petersons credit he stuck to a gameplan we haven't seen him use extensively before, and made it much more close and competitive than many thought he could.
Agree, It happens too regular for it being the case of an off night, all through Khans career there are examples of this, I really do think its an Intelligence Issue?
Had to Peterson by two mate, i can't give Khan rounds for pitter patter work from outside then running away. Went for quality work and for large periods Peterson worked with quality. I believe the knockdown in round 1 that was actually counted wasn't a knockdown, scored it 10-8 as it was Khan's round and had to score it but tbh i didn't think it was a legit knockdown. Need to rewatch that though but remember thinking it was a forearm to send him down plus Khan's leg catching him? could well be wrong was shattered .
Some of the rounds was close, its one of them fights I could score differently depending on my mood, Id be a useless judge, I had Khan by a round but can in no way moan about scoring it to Peterson, his punches were a lot more eye catching, some rounds I did score to Khan on the volume of punches landed, I found it a difficult fight to score.
What can Khan do differently in the rematch? He didnt appear to have the sting in his shots to keep peterson off him for the most part, although it did look like Peterson was out on his feet in the 9th and if Khan had more energy he could have finished it there. Instead of trying to box for a couple of rounds like he did this time, Peterson will just go at Khan from the first bell in any rematch.
Khan won this fight without the point deductions, lets not make out like he was totally annihilated and wouldn't have a chance in the rematch.
