...really? :huh A notoriously impoverished country? I'd think Médecins Sans Frontières was about as good as you'd likely find there...
Oh shut up, it's not the context to be insulting people's faith regardless of your own beliefs (or lack of.) I hope he gets well soon. Fighters are truly brave people.
From what I hear, a lot of rich Asians go to the Philippines to get better medical care. So yeah, I think it's an accurate statement. A lot of talent ends up working abroad but I think we still get a healthy amount of really good doctors to stay in the Philippines. The problem with the Philippines is because there are so many poor people, they can't afford it, but the doctors and the facilities are there.
:think Interesting. So...who's going to pay Segura's medical bills, even if there's good care available? They're probably astronomical to fix his orbital floor in a country where he isn't insured. As we all know (and as the article reaffirms) the lower-division boxers don't make a ton of money..
The bills will still be pretty low I would expect (relatively low at least) but I can't say for sure as I don't know how much Segura made and I won't even pretend to know how much it costs to repair a broken orbital bone. I do know that putting screws in your shoulder socket to prevent dislocated shoulders costs around $US 3000-4000 here in the Philippines. Does that help?
I'm not sure actually. I certainly looked like him and someone else said it too so I assumed it was. Maybe the commentators confirmed it but I turned off the sound when I watched it because I couldn't stand Pac's color commentary
Medical treatment in other countries such as the Philippines are a fraction of what they cost in the United States. Many Americans who don't have coverage for certain medical procedures often go to other countries for the lower cost. And yes, the Philippines have great doctors. One particular American lady had a complicated pregnancy while in the Philippines. The finest doctors helped her deliver a healthy baby boy who went on to lead an extraordinary life.
My medical registration is 87,000 plus. There are 18,000 Filipino doctors in the US. Do the maths. Basically, 1 in 4-5 doctors are working in the USA. University of the Philippines school of Medicine graduates send 70-80 per cent of their gradutaes to the USA. Saipan, which is an american protectorate has a special suite in the Philippine heart center, where bypass procedures are paid by the US governmaent.
