The country is spelled Philippines (plural form, for the 7,000+ islands). But when used to denote something that is from the Philippines, dropping the "S" (to make it singular) is standard practice.

    Examples:

It is Philippine Airlines, not Philippines Airlines.

PSC: Philippine Sports Commission, not Philippines Sports Commission.

BTW, I am Filipino and born in the Philippines, also known as the Philippine Islands.

Nobody cares about the NFL in the Philippines. I was talking about the sports news in America. Philippine born Tim Tebow who flopped in his first game as a starter has won something like 7 straight miracle comeback games. He's known as an devout Christian and returns yearly to his birthplace in the Philippines to assist his missionary uncle who's lived in Mindanao (Pac's birthpace) for over 20 years.

He was born in the Philippines to American missionary parents. By Philippine law, you take the citizenship of your parents upon birth regardless of your birthplace. Half the countries in the world do this. The other half like the United States, you are a citizen if you are born within their borders.

It's funny how Tim Tebow was not granted Filipino citizenship despite being born there, then having to apply for citizenship in the U.S. as a foreign national. :yep
