Philippines is derived from Las Islas Filipinas, which is plural and female in the Spanish language. That is why "the" is used to precede Philippines much like the country "The Maldives". A single particular island would be referred to as a Maldive island.

I think 3 years old. His parents lived in the Philippines from 1985-1990. Tim was born in 1987.

*******s don't know who Tebow is. Who cares about NFL in the Philippines?
Honestly, this is my first time to hear about him.

    You are all wrong!!!

Tim "the Freak" or "the franchise" Lincecum is the most famous.

    Tebow is next!

Filipinos will care soon enough when Tebow keeps getting bigger. He was born in the Philippines and has a deeply religious persona that is endearing to many Filipinos. Tebow has been visiting the Philippines every year during off season to help his uncle who's been a missionary there since the 80s.

Sorry, read the title again: "Philippine born"

    Lincecum was born in Washington.

Tim Tebow is the truth! ...regardless of where he was born. Football is witnessing divine intervention.

I think when you refer to country itself, you have to use the spelling with an s. Like in you title, (I could be wrong) it sounds more appropriate with an s.
