Khan getting jobbed on Saturday night is bad for the sport of boxing.

I don't see how this fight is bad for boxing. It was a tremendous fight and creates a lot of buzz for boxing. How could anyone not like an all action fight like this? Boxing needs more fighters willing to give it their all in the ring.
Of course the outcome in a very close fight like this will be hotly contested by fans of either fighter, but that's normal. It's a shame either guy had to lose, they both won in my book. I would have been ok with a draw or a point either way, that's how close it was. You can't blame Peterson for any of this. If the ref took points for pushing, doesn't Khan share that blame as well? He was repeatedly warned to stop doing it. I'm not saying the ref was right or wrong, but it is within his right to deduct points for pushing, and the pushing was so obvious.
To me, this is one of those fights where the loser wins too. Look at Chisora, he lost his bid for the Euro HW Belt, but now he's fighting for a real HW title against Vitali in February. Losing should not be the end of the world in boxing, too much emphasis is put on it. Khan will be ok, in fact this loss should be good for him going forward, and I would also likely pick him to win the rematch and I think he will show up much more focused.

 

I was actually at the fight and seen nothing wrong with the decision. It was a very close fight. The knockdown didn't seem legit - more of a push with the arm and the point deductions weren't the best calls - but if anything it evened it out for the bad knockdown call.

Looking forward to a rematch.

 

The judges had it right based on rhe 2 point deductions, so it was correct judging. Now the ref is another story. Floyd does worst then khan just more subtle. When he see his opponent come inside he will move the pont of his elbow in front. If he misses he will show his forearm on his face till the opponent adjust his head to the side, then floyd hits them while shoving forearm on the face. He also likes to duck and drop his head off to the right at about below his waist line, so that his opponent only has his back to hit which would be illegal. He also likes to blind his opponent with one glove then body blows with his right, but in not sure if that's illegal. So I find that khans 2 points deduct to be uncalled for.

The comparison is made because some guy was trying to say Khan ran like Dirrell and if the running done by Khan is okay, why not Dirrell.

I had to respond 'cos no one runs like Dirrell. He stunk the place out and it became a non fight due to his running whilst it is not the same in this case.

I just hope Khan learns from this. If he simply rationalizes it as being robbed, he won't advance much further than where he is. He needs to analyze the loss, see where he was deficient, and shore up his weaknesses.

A great fighter learns from his losses, not make excuses for them. If Khan understands and accepts this, he'll become a much better fighter.

 

He wasn't jobbed you ****ing *******. If anything he was robbed of a draw and his own stupidity robbed him of that.

Joe cooper is what all refs should be like.

Strict and fair. He warned Khan many times. Ad you can tell he is all for action, making fighters fight out of clinches.

If that did not happen we would have seen a 12 round bore fest.

Can't agree more. Too many fans care about the winning and losing rather than the quality of the fight.

It didn't use to be like that and the best fight the best without having to care about losing their zero. Why so much avoiding now a days because of it.

 

Boxers will now be more reluctant to fight on the road, thanks to crooked home referees like Joe Cooper.

Fighters from other countries have quite a history of being jobbed in the US. If I were a British or other European fighter, I wouldn't fight there.

I had Khan up before the final point deduction and expected the fight to be announced as a draw. It was a close fight but Khan gave it away in the end. If you take out the fouling, Khan wins.

Congrats to Peterson though. I think Khan takes the rematch but maybe becoming a champ will cause Peterson to elevate his game. Maybe it will give him that spark.

 

I thought Khan should have at the least kept his titles but so much was revealed on Saturaday.....so much was exposed. Depending on your perspective it could have been negative revalations or positive ones. I saw a durable fighter willing to mix it up at times but I also saw a fighter that retreated way to much, held way to much was dominated on the inside.

 

Happens everywhere. Plenty of American fighters complain about home cooking in Europe. Hell, plenty of European/Brittish/Russian (etc) fighters complain about gift decisions in Europe/Brittain/Russia (etc).

 

Agreed. Finally, a ref that will enforce the rules and allow infighting. Richard Steele and Joe Cortez couldn't carry Cooper's latex gloves.
