Well Smith did play into Selby's hands by fighting face first and swinging like a mad man. Either way Selby is a solid british level operator. Should be a good scrap.

 

Smith didnt seem right that night but fair doos to Selby.... think Simpson will take it though ...

 

It's simple mate, Smith is not a brawler, he is a boxer who can brawl a bit. His tactics for the Selby fight were horrendous.

 

Firstly, what a quality wee write up.

Secondly, am not sure how its sponsored by me but hmmmmm oks

(Maybe ma reasoning that a fine thread on such a fine fight by last years Poster Of The Year would help cement Manderz title back to back in the championship rounds so to speak.......if this makes sense)

Flea's up there for history and staunch no holds barred opinion etc but showed a flawed heart when asking the Forum if he was such a bad guy a wee while back.......(insert gazoc wink)

BUT its the Brit forum.........

and no one beats the Manderz all round, be it honesty, opinion, thread opening etc......though he was a bit cheeky previously.....that only showed peoples/fighters etc lack of not checking out the mighty ESB :deal

So here we have it........


Simpson.....cold, almost Harrison-esque (though Harrison wins the facial hair gruffness as John has sported some mental goatees ) and we can talk all day of the results thats gone against him etc but.......that was then...and we are here now......JUST like he is.....he just gets on with it.

THATS truly what i admire and am deadly serious........he wasnt Hamed for example but he got a heart ten times bigger....say what you want........FACT !!!

The output he has is ridiculous, as i have said many times before......relentless (No Laz)

The virus is not a concern, a fighter knows when he aint right and Billy N does too......his concentration on his fighters weights when in training(strict) justifys this presumption........from what i have seen.

Who thought Burns would come in on the scales questioning making the weight when he was moving up ?

Anyways, Selby....man of not so many words..........seems a cold character and i have nothing bad to say of him.

I dont know him just like many here probably dont yet they questioned why he danced around when Smith was banjo'd.........without knowing the facts.

Was it something personal previously ?

Was it simply joy ?

Who knows......maybe he has had previous....regarding such response ?

Maybe many of the Pro's who slaughtered him for it can tell me.

Naturally it aint nice but heyho.


As Manderz says.......he could be special which is true and if John does a job on him people will only say Smith did have a bad night and Selby was never anything yadayada.........as is how it is here.......and tbf Selby didnt get to where he is smashing his keyboard.

I aint checked his boxrec to see where he has been and how hard those places were........but i know what he will have coming at him......and some.

Anyways i will STFU now.....

I think it's a tough fight to call.

Selby is still kind of an unknown. He seemed to be hitting very hard vs Smith and seems like a big puncher at the weight. He was vaunted as the outside slick boxer before the fight but decided to go inside and fight an inside fight vs Smith and he absolutely mullered him. He also seemed to be winning on the outside.

It was a complete mismatch.

This is the same smith who went life and death with simpson twice... they were pretty evenly matched. While Simpson is tough, he has been hurt before and Selby will be loading up for the fences. Plus Selby could decide to do it on the backfoot so we really don't know.

I have to favour Selby.. he seemed very strong on the inside vs Smith and he also showed slick skills and a good defence... AND POWER. Would I bet on it? Probably but not much. We will learn a lot about Selby here.

 

Thats a fair post and as i said i dont know Selby that well and this slickness you talk off......links ?

It makes you wonder about him going inside against Smith......maybe he simply saw that a hugging falling in holder wouldnt be a problem ???

As said...am biased but fair and Simpsons maybe got Selbys number just as Selby believed he had Smiths....and proved.

Its defo not an easy fight for Simpson but it could easily be.....as any champion deserves respect.

I cant slate Selby and anyone with an ounce of respect for themselves wont.......and you can bet your last bottom dollar John Simpson aint.

True man and that gyms been good to me.

I have walked in there a few times now not knowing what to expect for various reasons and all i have had is fighters and trainers take the time to chat etc and at times confide.......be it previous or new (not including lifts, dinners, coffees, phone numbers etc)

Am even told to take ma gear down etc and its not a gimme, or to sound me out....and ma record as a 6ft 2 LightWeight aint bad

In all seriousness am just happy to STFU and watch and learn......even though am in ma 30's and some thought i was early 20's

Anyways, i will be there.

I really like John, one of my favourite domestic boxers, he has faced literally everyone and that shows in his extremely deceiving record. Simpson FTW.

 

simmy knock out! smith didnt fight.trusscot, lindsey and morris went for it and look what happened to them. simmy is the best in europe imo but the judges and ref dont like him

 

I wish i could post such beautiful simplicity......yet i get all involved.
