I think Khan still won this close fight but this fight again highlighted Khan's problems on the inside and I am sure Roach will have his hands full for the rematch. Great fight to watch, and the rematch will be massive but Khan will get his titles back off Peterson. :yep
maybe he can learn to fight backing up. Maybe like this guy in round 6 [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkHqh0tJwD0[/ame]
Problem Khan has, he is probably going to be jumping straight back in with Peterson. Now, he used his range well at times against Peterson, but he was very, very easily thrown off his own gameplan by Peterson simply walking him down. He has very little time to address the big errors in his game before the rematch, probably one training camp in fact. Peterson did not start off with the gameplan that won him the fight, he adapted in the fourth round or so. In the rematch, I'm sure Peterson and his camp will have the successful gameplan from the get go this time, just more fine tuned as they now have already been in the ring with Khan...and know what works well. Khan and Roach need to pull it out the bag next time, and the time for Khan to learn is now, otherwise he won't go any further in the sport.
learning lesson my ass...u make it seem like kahn had a off night...lamont was just the better fighter plain n simple
The fight was a near carbon copy of the Maidana fight... he hasn't improved since then on his inside game whatsoever.
Until Khan can learn to infight more...I think he's gonna have troubles with fighters that bring it to him.
I was actually thinking the exact same thing while watching this fight. I just wish he'd fix Bradley's punching technique :yep
Peterson will beat Khan again, he's not intelligent enough to learn from his mistakes. A whole year on from Maidana & zero improvement on his inside game. You cannot say it was not a possibility from watching Peterson's previous fights that Lamont would try to keep the fight at close quarters.
Khan needs to improve his skills but he clearly didn't fight his best that night. Peterson fought the fight of his life and deserves all the plaudits he gets. Khan seems to have regressed in his last few fights. His lateral movement & conditioning is better but he's started throwing straight flurries without mixing in hooks, been fighting a lot without planting his feet and been head hunting (something Pac did against Marquez). He threw a few left hooks in one round, puffed up Petersons eye to great effect and then started flurrying again!! A lot of the things he improved on, like not getting into unnecessary exchanges has gone out of the window and he is turning into a better conditioned version of the fighter he was when he joined Roach in the first place. He can fight better and we have all seen it. He's still learning, and apart from some obvious inside tactics he needs to learn some more sophisticated footwork. Pivoting away from an opponent instead of the really lumbered sidesteps he takes would be way quicker to avoid punches and create angles for him to counter. This is not Roach's coaching style though and I don't see Khan leaving him anythime soon.
Personally, I don't think that Khan will have learn anything other than not to fight outside of Khan friendly territory (England/Vegas). With his lack of skills, I seriously doubt that he can effectively learn inside fighting or how to defend against it without constantly fouling.
